Bristol's best punk covers band perform two great 45 minute sets of iconic punk and new wave classics by The Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Damned, Buzzcocks, Ian Dury and The Blockheads, The Undertones, Dead Kennedys, The Ramones....Spizz Energi, The Jam, The Saints....The Only Ones, Tenpole Tudor.... Wreckless Eric, The Fall, Magazine....The Ruts, Sham69, Dr Feelgood, Angelic Upstarts.... and much more.
With a fantastically authentic sound and stage presence in spades, The Mutoids are The punk covers band to see this year.
Been quiet lately. Back in action at the Cat on the 11th July. Hoping to play some new stuff including White Punks on Dope, Paranoid, Anarchy in the UK and Eton rifles. Should be a laugh. The Bald One.
Not sure it can possibly live up to the (completey packed) Prom the other week (thanks if you were there) but The Rays are playing The Old Tavern on Blackberry Hill, Bristol on Friday (25/1/08).
Just to let you know The Astonishing Atomic Rays Astonishing Xmas Show (TM) will be at The Reckless Engineer on Friday 14/12/07 - admission free (well it is Christmas).
Please note that The Astonishing Atomic Rays Astonishing Xmas Show (TM) will be fairly similar to our normal (astonishing) shows but with the addition of:
1) Christmas cheer 2) That Slade song 3) Perhaps a piece of tinsel stuck to Sir Roof's keyboards
Not bad, though?
And if you haven't seen us in a while there's plenty of new (to us) stuff being played so come along even if you're a bit "Bah! Humbug!" about the whole festive business. They do sell beer, after all...
Hope to see you there!
Ray Gunn (The Atomic Rays liaison with The Outside World)

The sandwiches and passports were duly packed for the first journey on the 'foreign' leg of the Mutiods tour as we emabarked for the enclave otherwise known as Kingswood; a place so exotic it is twinned with Myrthr Tydfill.
Some things need to be taken as read with this band; great prowess, tight musicianship and superb set list. However Saturday showed just how good this band really is. The best bands have one key thing; connectivity. The ability to draw the audience in and to re-shape the atmoshpere.
Being from overseas the atmosphere on arrival seemed like it could be cut with a machete, and the outsiders felt as welcome as Denzel Washington at a Klan rally. It was as though the gig opener 'White Riot' was more like a prophecy rather than an excellent recital of a class track.
But, and it is a BIG but, by the time the Mutiods had blew through the first half dozen tracks and 'Ace of Spades' had descended like a buzzsaw, the audience had most definately warmed up.
The second half opened up in style and the set list gripped like a python. 3-4 tracks from the end and the audience had become a punk faithful crew jigging and flailing limbs a-plenty.
This was the 'Mutiods' most brilliant performance, not because of the feel at the beginning, but because of the feeling at the end. A definited turn around which should surely secure future gigs at the Black Horse.
WHAT CAN I SAY. WERE OUTSTANDING. GOOD AT THE OLD FOX, GREAT AT THE CAT AND WHEEL AND TOOK IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL. INCREDIBLY TIGHT PLAYING, FAITHFUL TO THE ORIGINAL SOUND AND VERY LOAD. HIGHLIGHTS FOR ME = WHITE RIOT, IN THE CITY, ACE OF SPADES, SWORDS OF 1000 MEN, ALTERNATIVE ULSTER, BORSTAL BREAKOUT, NEW ROSE.
THE MUTOIDS ARE WITHOUT DOUBT THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF BRILLIANT LIVE MUSIC AND THE BEST OUTFIT PLAYING IN BRISTOL. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU CATCH THEIR NEXT GIG - YOU WILL BE HOOKED.
