My name is Michael Warren Kennedy, I was born in Waterloo, Iowa and was raised in South Florida, living in Florida I have seen the culture shock created by rapid growth in communities such as is happening here, now. I have lived here in Clark County, Nevada for ten years, moving here to attend UNLV, where I graduated with two B.A. degrees in 2003. I am married with three children who attend our public schools, Jade in Elementary, Elise in Middle, and Edward in High School. As both a citizen and parent in Clark County, I am sure that I share many of the same concerns you have about our community. As your elected representative in the assembly, I will truly represent the families and the people of Nevada.
Family is very important to me and I am very proud to be a descendant of Irish and Italian immigrants. Immigrants who have fostered leaders like my grandfather, who founded Warren Transport with his brother. Today thirty years after his death Warren Transport is still flourishing and a family business.
My Great Uncle, a past State Republican Chairman for Iowa, taught me the importance of voting and choosing your representatives well. My Native American ancestors who, just by their history, have taught me the importance of being represented.
Growing up my parents were an inspiration, they have been active business owners and community volunteers most of my life instilling in me, the value of giving back to my community. Today with a family of my own, they have inspired me to want to see a change in the deterioration of our community.
Like most of you, I am not native to Nevada, but again like you I have chosen to live here, to make this my home, my family’s home. I want to do the very best I can to make our community the best family place in Nevada. I want to make our district a place where we welcome law abiding people from all walks of life; a place where we can thrive in our chosen professions without being taxed unnecessarily, a place where we can raise and educate our children, without overcrowding our streets or schools.
