"During the first period of a man’s life, the greatest danger is not to take the risk,” said philosopher Soren Kierkegaard, and Philadelphia singer-songwriter Max Seidman carries this notion with him onto the stage every time he plays. Influenced by the works of such artists as Neil Young, Nick Drake, Adam Duritz and Ryan Adams, Max’s writing is personal, introspective and relatable—echoing a wealth of understanding that goes beyond his 21 years. After first picking up a guitar at the age of 12, Max quickly dedicated himself to playing and writing music. Inspired by bands such as The Allman Brothers Band and Pink Floyd, Seidman went from deciphering the mastery of songs such as “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” and “Wish You Were Here,” to writing his own music and lyrics. Max soon began singing at local Philadelphia open mic nights at Bryn Mawr’s The Point and booked gigs at Milkboy Coffee. With pure, emotionally driven performances, he performed at these venues over the next several years. After repeat requests from his live-show followers, Max finally recorded his first eponymous self-titled EP at Cambridge Sound Studios under the tutelage of Grammy-nominated producer Jim Salamone. As the EP garnered buzz, Max was well received and became more in demand—booking gigs all around the Delaware Valley, including venues such as Philly’s The Khyber, the Tin Angel and The Fire. After the success of these shows and his first EP, in 2009 Max recorded his second EP, Like A Ghost, at Studio 4 Recording under the close guidance of famed Grammy-Award winning producer Phil Nicolo—the man responsible for producing music for iconic singer-songwriters such as Bob Dylan, Billy Joel and Pete Yorn. To be released in the coming months, Like A Ghost captures some of Max’s best songwriting and singing, and is a true creative representation of the artist himself.
