About me:
In an ever increasing world of plush lounges with throw pillows and high priced flavored martini's that have bastardized the once great institution of bars. This site is dedicated to those establishments that remain true to the drinker. Neighborhood joints, local spots, dives. Here when the bartender nods and says hi it's 'cause they know your name and buying a round doesn't require a credit check. For those who love these simple but sacred spots for libation, well this site is for you...
I mean c'mon people, you didn't think I was out there drinkin' bourbon & buds for myself did you? No. I was doing it for you, so come read what I sacrificed my liver for...
Who I'd like to meet: Anyone else who likes to drink & dive
.. My Calendar Broke OK - I Broke It But Yours Is Still Shiny and New I know you will enjoy the Party Hats and Whistles and Cake with Ice Cream, Presents and Games and Candles, and Baton Twirlers and Glockenspiels and the Giant Air Balloons, and there's Fire Breathing Stilt Walkers, and right smack dab in the middle, why there's Cowboy Bob on his Palomino and the Comanche all riding on Elephants - why it's coming up the street now - can you hear the Band Playing ? up the street I tell youse! it sounds tarrific ... and you know what? well, it's playing for you my boy! Happy Birthday ..
Did you happen to keep any record of my extensive hands on whiskey research... other than the time I threatened to take on an entire bar minus the ex-pro football player?
I still mourn the loss of the Firefly. If you look real hard at the building it used to be in (Vine South of Hollywood, some photographer's studio now I think) you can still see the outline of the sign. Walking, who am I kidding, crawling distance from the Frolic, with a well placed Taco cart in between, and they lit the bar on fire at last call. I've still never seen a 7oz Bud anywhere else. And they had twin bartenders. RIP Fly. You are well missed.
