My Favorite Citizen was an indie rock band that existed from 1996 to 1998. Prior to MFC, the members of the band had been in then-notable but now utterly forgotten indie and punk bands True Zero, the Lavalinas, and Ellison. People liked those bands so much that the first MFC show - at a McDonald's - was so packed that the cops had to show up for crowd control. Strange but true. People liked Citizen as well, though, and we played many shows. Some were incredible and some sucked, but we always had fun.
During our brief career, we released a 7", a VERY limited edition split 7", and two songs on two compilations on two continents. We had an album all ready to be released, but we broke up and it never saw the light of day.
After six years of requests, that album is finally being released along with everything (almost everything?) we ever recorded some time in the not-to-distant future. You should totally buy it and pretend that you were 'indie' before you were ever 'emo'.
wow i can rest much easier knowing those lyrics now. its damn near impossible to decipher them by ear. heres what i presumed were the nearly perfect lyrics of Kayla Learns to Dance
i sail in slow times, sail in gold lines. like a starfish consumes fish. you've got no record to land, you don't know where you're going. you're back at your top. i found the copies of a common crush and nowhere to go, nowhere. and she can learn to dance then you can learn to walk alone. cause kayla's learning to dance! you left a milkcrate from the records you can't play, remember why? fill another bridge in and now elliot smith's on now. something something blows, you blow right out. so much like a candle, so much more you can handle. you're burning out.
i feel dumb as im reading the actual lyrics cause its easier than how i made it out to be.
"if we build it will they come? i'm there either way. we should kind of make sure lots of people will be there. i don't have a guitar amp anymore though. we'll hafta borrow one."
this is a quote from my chat with damon. so to everyone who cares, it looks like we're going to do this in march of 08.
im up for going to the potential reunion next year. why don't you have it at the Pipeline, Brownies, or the Wayne McDonald's?! oops, none of those places still exist.
gents - next march will be 10 years since our last show. any chance damon will come home to practice for 3 days and play 2 nights? scott, are you up for it?
We used to beat up these indie rock nerds and steal their lunch money back in high school. We stopped when they got their second drummer Matt. That dude was one tough bad ass!!! Anyway, we apologized for the past and became friends. They made an after-school special about our relationship.
