LOTS of them......m*f*e is influenced not only by the world that surrounds but by the music within. Including: Fugazi, Zeppelin, Rush, RHCP, Smashing Pumpkins, and a lot more.
“The sultry, groove-driven Portland outfit My Favorite Everything. MFE, led by gritty siren-guitarist Maggie Brown, offers up swampy bass melodies that contrast sharply with the spitfire grit of the band's aggressive choruses, drawing influences from Zeppelin to Shirley Manson.” ---Willamette Week
Though we are as one
I will hold you close
Borrowed time is stolen time
I’ll make you realize that
I will hold you close.
Simple ring and stone
Combine this happy home
And even through the pain infused
You shuffle step behind
But I won’t let you fall . . .
Life has a consequence
and its given to make you stare . . .
Those are some lyrics to the song “Stare” from the My Favorite Everything album “Wide Awake” that was released June 15, 2007. The song was penned by Shane Asbery, M*F*E’s bassist, while he was going through chemotherapy after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2006. Shane passed away June 18, 2007---three days after the release of “Wide Awake”---he went peacefully with the album he worked so hard to create playing in the background and his bandmates, wife/vocalist Maggie Brown and drummer Jonathan Kreitler, by his side.
“Wide Awake” was supposed to be a mark in time for how far My Favorite Everything had come and where they were going musically. Now it is a legacy to Shane, a lasting memorial to him. My Favorite Everything will never be the same without him. Though the future of the band is in question, the album that was created is one of those irreplaceable moments that captures life in all its beauty and consequence.
Featuring “Stare” and “Supposedly”, the songs that took Shane out of this world, M*F*E’s first album is a meaningful, powerful rock and roll story with a very sad ending but amazing pages in between.

i think about you all the time shaney. i miss you so much. you are so alive in my heart. thanks for being my friend, brother, and music mate. i love you.
One day I hooked up with Shane to swap some musical gear - we ended up talking shop in his front room for about 40 minutes. You could tell he was excited for the new masters getting done and shows to follow. We had just met but it was like talking to an old friend. Great human being and a fantastic musician. Be good man. You're missed
Congrats on the CD release! Are they sold locally??? Should we all hang out soon? I hope all is well with you guys. Thanks for all the messages and keeping us informed. OK, now where can we buy a CD? ha ha
shane. of my 28 years on this planet, i've known you for 10 of them. you were an original in every sense of the word. you spoke, through words or music or both, the truth as you saw it; and you were right nearly all of the time. you had a power; a strength of heart that most of us envied because you were never afraid of the consequences of honesty.... in fact, you were afraid of almost nothing.
you faced things that many spend their whole lives fearing; and you faced them without so much as a batted eye. i never heard you complain. it made me complain for you. you had an almost preternatural understanding of The Way Things Are. you knew that wishing is useless, and that regret is wasteful. when everyone else talked, you acted, and bless you for that. you were one of God's Own Prototypes; a high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. we'll never see anything quite like you again, and when it's all said and done, all i can do is thank god that i was lucky enough to know you.
you were beautiful. good show, my friend. you packed more life into your short time here than most ever will, and you set an example for all of us that knew you. you stood for life unedited, and you always will.
you will live forever in the changes you inspired in all of us, and we're all stronger because of you.
If i live to be a thousand years old, you will be on my mind to the end. thank you, shane. for everything. bravo.
Shane, Awesome Bassist, Good Neighbor and all around great guy!Im sure you're in a better place now. RIP brother! The rest of the band, Im so sorry! I cant imagine how you feel.
Maggie & Jon, I know we're all crying now and will be for a long time- and that there are no words to describe the pain we all feel- be strong and take comfort in the amazing and beautiful MFE album you and Shane created. My thoughts are with you both! love kristen
