Malt Balls or anything yummy with MALT in it... Marzipan (that almond paste stuff that's inside a bearclaw pastry), and that sweet corn mush ball served on the side of your plate at El Torito... that's the BEST.
"You gonna eat that
CORN BALL?!"

My Favorite character was
"The Chicken Lady"...
"Would you like an Omelet? It's FRESH! Straight from my B-B-BODY to the P-P-Plaaaate!!"

and
"Who's Line Is It Anyway"
My first crush on someone of that persuasion was on Robin Williams as "Mork"...

Not just goofy and wacky, but sweet and introspective too! The perfect man... well, except that he was an alien.

and then Jim Carrey of course, back when he was known as "The White Guy" on "In Living Color"...
Gotta love Jimmy Fallon and Chris Kattan! AND...
Dave Attell "Insomniac"

Helps remind me that life is bigger than my own problems.
I would like to travel more if I had the money...
But I did get over to EUROPE once in October, 1998 (just before I turned 27) for a little over month on a very low budget, backpacker style.
ITALY, GERMANY, and FRANCE!
You have NOT been to OKTOBERFEST, until you've been to the real thing in Munchen (or Munich), Germany. I love unique art, WILLIAM RAFUSE is awesome, and mirrors with gold frames. Candle light, Nag Champa, and Soundscapes... Colored glass and funky furniture... BRIGHT COLORS,

or LIGHT UP.

Music
My musical awakening happened while listening to Simon and Garfunkel when I was 13... which led me to join Choir, and then it was PRINCE,
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
with all his dirty lyrics and passion.
By the time High School rolled around, I was already totally into Bob Marley... and then that morphed into The Beatles...
via The White Album...
Next thing you know, it was The Smiths, The Pouges,..The Violent Femmes, Chili Peppers, Beastie Boys, The Ramones, and The Sex Pistols...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Then in my Senior year I finally discovered...
The Grateful Dead,
The Doors,
& also
Cat Stevens... and it just went on from there.
In my early 20's I revisited The Eagles, Steve Miller Band, James Taylor, Kansas, Chicago, and...
The Doobie Brothers and fell in love with the music of my childhood all over again.
Then I FINALLY got in touch with my personal vocal and performance inspirations: Bono from U2,
Ann Wilson
from Heart, Robert Plant, the unstopable Tina Turner, Freddie Mercury from Queen - who is a GOD, and Janis Joplin - who IS the Queen...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
After which I stumbled upon Ani Di Franco who is simply AMAZING in every aspect. And then, in the summer of '97 (just a few months before I turned 26), a good friend of mine, MARY (Miss Mary Mac), introduced me (literally - in person) to INCUBUS at The Roxy in Hollywood before they got famous for their record release of "SCIENCE". We were HUGE fans ever since that day and it seemed to take FOREVER (2 years) for them to hit the airwaves. But we KNEW that they'd make it!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Brandon Boyd's voice is amazing!! If all you know of Incubus is what you've heard on the radio, then I strongly urge you to check out their second album after "Enjoy Incubus" called "SCIENCE"....
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
It has been described as "Funk-Metal" and it will get your blood pumping for sure! I also consider myself very lucky to have been there at The Roxy in Hollywood in 1999 for their record release of their first "commercial" success "Make Yourself". It was much too crowded to get a chance to talk to the band that time... but the show KICKED ASS!! I'm so proud that I was actually there!
Now that I'm "all grows up" I tend to lean towards music with a little bit more angst or depth.
Hole, Linkin Park, Tool, System, Disturbed, Stained...

Aaron Lewis is SMOKIN HOT!!
Audioslave, Radio Head, Coldplay, and Evanescence...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I'm also a lover of "TECHNO"
Within that, mostly TRANCE...
Image hosting by Photobucket
and anything unusual or unique sounding.
Basically, anything that makes you move... thrash around... sing... dance... cry... or feel ALIVE!

Image hosting by Photobucket
"I believe this movie. A dude could jump off a mountain and not hurt himself, cause he did brace himself. And knew something about the levels of gravitivity and polarity!"

Laugh till it hurts?:
Rat Race
(a VERY funny movie!)

"Perhaps I had a wicked childhood. Perhaps I had a miserable youth. But somewhere in my wicked, miserable past, there must have been a moment of truth. For here you are, standing there, loving me. Whether or not you should. So somewhere in my youth or childhood, I must have done something good..."

Anytime-all-time favs? Anything Sci-Fi or Fantasy....
OF COURSE.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Lord Of The Rings and
Star Wars are a given.
So is anything dark and twisted like Strange Days or The Crow.

But my top Sci-Fi pics involve time travel and..... VAMPIRES.

(I was in love with K.T.T...the CAR), Robotech (Anime T.V. series),
Miami Vice, Quantum Leap (with Scot Bakula, also so in love), and more "recently" I watched the first season of 24, but then gave up. And The Simpsons, Family Guy, The Critic, and South Park (of course) go without saying...

I never laughed harder than while watching THIS episode...

The social commentary is pure genius!

NEWS FLASH: This just in.... I have just started watching INVASION.
I can't help it... it's got "Aliens" in it! I can't resist!
NEWS FLASH UPDATE: O.K.... I stopped watching after 3 episodes... I hate being a slave to a certain day and time.
Thank God for DVD's!!
Books
I'm so bad. I haven't read a book in a looooong time. BUT I am totally into reading all about Freemasonry and anything that's a real life "Mystery". I think space exploration is cool too.
Heroes
Uh... DUH! That would be JANIS FRIKIN JOPLIN

About me:
Hi! Im Rita. I wrote up this huge ass profile of mine back in Sept. '05, only one year after My Space was born, and it's probably the biggest profile in the history of My Space; remodeling long over due....

But for now, I decided to start posting some blogs which at the moment is actually just some video & song lyrics until I get the hang of it...

Please check out my very first "blog" about the size of the universe entitled: Perspective...enjoy!

Photobucket
Me? Well... I like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain. And the feel of the ocean, and the taste of champagne. If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape, then you're the love that I've looked for, come with me, and escape!
Photobucket
O.K., Maybe if you are a 70's cheesy music buff you will find that humorous....
If not, then I'm a DORK so... wah-dev-ah!

I'm also one of those dorky kind of people that like to write... ALLOT.
No, really. I'm warning you...

I don't mind sharing stories about myself... have found that to be the best way to find common ground, or at least way to make someone laugh!

So for those rare few who find interest, below is practically my whole life story... slightly censored just in case my mother ever reads this, in a light hearted skim-over version chalked with photos, fun graphics and nostalgia, which even at a quick glance should give anyone a fairly good description of my background, personality and general outlook on life.

For the real juicy philosophical stuff and topics of substance, I am planning to write several very personal blogs that go much, much deeper.
Until then, I hope you will enjoy my colorful "Self-Portrait"...
All for your surface scratching enjoyment.

Sometimes I feel that I am merely a product of ingredients.
How do you make a Rita?

Take one part genetics and mix with allot of Sagittarious to start. Then add a heaping helping of life circumstances blended well with physical image... sprinkle heavily with personal experiences and... Viola!
Here I am...

I think it's the same for everybody weather they know it or not... Everyone is different... but we are all the same. Remember The Breakfast Club and the sterotypes? That's just the tip of the iceberg I'm sure.

As for me, I am a classic case of the chubby nerdy kid with thick glasses that was picked on brutally... therefore developing an uncanny sense of humor, and a love and compassion for people and things that are UNUSUAL, MISPLACED, and MISUNDERSTOOD.

I took a little test.. and this is what it said:
You May Be a Bit Schizotypal ...
Photobucket
A bit odd and socially isolated.
You couldn't care less of what others think.
And some of your beliefs are a little weird.
Like that time you thought you were Jesus.

Fairly acurate...?
Except that I may only FEEL socially isolated at times...
since by reputation I have always been known as
EXTREMELY OUTGOING even since I was a child...
in between all my daydreaming that is.

Acording to another little test I took, I'm also pretty darn close to being true to my sign...
I am 87% Sagittarius!
Image hosting by Photobucket
Image hosting by Photobucket
If you are not familiar with what a Sagittarius is like, check my blog above!

Oh, and if you are at all familiar with the Meyer's Brigg's test, I am an E.N.F.P.
(Extroverted, INtuitive, Feeling, and Perceiving personality type)

I'm also the typical formula for wanting to become either an actor or a singer... or BOTH... and maybe even more...? As for me... I'm a singer, enjoy all styles of music, and "specialize" in JANIS JOPLIN,

Out of every singer there ever was...
I feel like I can RELATE to her THE MOST.
Image hosting by Photobucket
I like to SING all kinds of music... and I like to LISTEN and appreciate all kinds of music...

but I guess you can say that I'm more of an Alt. Rock fan:
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Incubus, Radio Head, System Of A Down, etc... and Techno/Electronica plus interesting world and cultural music as well.

I had a cover band called Paint The Alphabet from '97 through 2000, and then another cover band called Funny Farm in all of 2001.

I'm also into pretty much anything 60's, 70's, 80's, or otherwise RETRO...
LOVE those 70's lamps with the amber glass base that light up... and I like to decorate and accessorize... the funkier the better! I also love the Tokyo street style known as Harijuku and the fun brightness of underground raver fashion.
I guess you could say I'm kinda like a grown-up Punky Brewster.

I never cared much about "fitting in", but having friends that I cound realte to emotionally and philosophically was, and still is, very important to me.

I was born in San Diego, but have lived in Huntington Beach, Ca. ever since I was 3 years old. I am "The Middle Child" of FIVE...
I have 4 SISTERS (2 older, and 2 younger) but also another half brother and sister and many cousins as well.

My heritage is a mutt mix of
German, Swedish, Irish, and Spanish...
but I mostly lean toward my German side mainly because of my Grandfather (my Mom's Dad, whom I use to call my "Grandpa-Daddy") going around saying little catchy words in German. He would call me his "Liebschen" which means "Baby Doll".

But I am very proud of all of my family heritage. One very super cool thing on my Grandmother's side (my Mom's Mom) is that my Grandmother's Cousin's Wife (I know that sounds far removed, but check this out) was the one who hand sewed the actual American Flag that was FIRST (Apollo 11) on the moon! NO SHIT, I'm not making this up... I mean, who would come up with such a thing? Check it out:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Yup, that's the one! Somewhere out there... is a little piece of family history. She even secretly sewed her family name into the hem... Isn't that RAD? Uhhh... don't tell anyone mmm-k?

My Dad's side is pretty interesting too. His mom, my Grandma is the Spanish part of my heritage, and his Dad is Irish... but also a kick-ass Akidio Master!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Even though I know my Grandparents on my Dad's side, I don't know him, my "real" Dad, AT ALL...
Infact, I only met him once when I was about 13 and I barely made eye contact with him. Throughout my life, and to this day, he has never sent me a card or a letter... but that has never really bothered me or effected me much. I've always been indifferent about it. What effects you, are the people IN your life...

The Stepfather that I had ever since I was 3 years old was the only father I had ever known, and things were always VERY difficult between us. And sadly, things were just starting to get a little better just before he passed away in the spring of 2000.

But despite all my childhood drama, there was also alot of singing, dancing, and big family gatherings where laughter and down right silliness was the norm... My Mom and my sisters, their kids, and all my extended family are my pride and Joy.
Lots of summers with my cousins in San Diego, lots of family camping trips, and being a Girl Scout is probabally what saved me as a kid... (also falling asleep listening to Dr. Demento on Sunday nights!)

I would daydream allot and try to draw. I started off liking rainbows and unicorns immensely
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
and then I integrated into really liking sports cars... ALLOT. My favorite car EVER?
Well, that would be the Lamborghini Countach... of course!!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
While other girls had teen heart-throb posters covering their walls, my room consisted mostly of Lamborghini's and Ferrari's... NO (blech!) Porche's!

In Jr. High, I became very close friends with some of the other misfits in school, which kicked off the beginning of really becoming who I am. While riding home on our bikes, me and JENNIFER (Jedi Jen) became the bestest of friends because we both loved to sing. Looking back, I can't believe we went dancing at Knot's Berry Farm's "Studio-K" as much as we did at that age!

I also grew up VERY Catholic,
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
but have since...er...um...drifted away. High School was a blur... but thank God I had my Choir and Theater friends to get me through it and help me "find myself" which led me through the oh so common
Monty Python...

and Rocky Horror Picture Show phase.

Here's me and Carlos on the last day of school of my Freshman year. Although I'm still only 14, I am no longer a bottom feeder! Horray!!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I was really looking forward to my Sophmore year. I had "auditioned" and was able to be apart of the schools more advanced choir,
"Vocal Ensomble".
I would also be 15 soon, which meant that I would be eliagble for a workers permit! For my very first real job (other than Baby-sitting), I had the pleasure of working at Chuck E. Cheese... Oh... the memories.
But I was not alone! My friend Jennifer (Jedi Jen), that went to Huntington High, worked there too! Ha!

But then I got mad and quit for some reason... just in time to enjoy the rest of my summer, right before I became a Junior.

I decided to make a change, a new me for the new school year, and dye my hair dark alburn. Which led me to go and debu my new "do" and hang out at a video arcade on the boardwalk by the H.B. Pier (where the classy resturant Chimayo's now sits), which led me to meet Matt, a boy that Jennifer knew from choir at Huntington.
My very first official boyfriend!

A few months later, I had my 16th Birthday in the garage. I was so proud to have a real boyfriend with me, but also sad because I knew that he would be moving away.
No matter... our love was strong enough to see it through!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
We would write letter's all the time.. real ones on paper!
There was no e-mail or cell phones in 1986! We would also make mixes of our favorite songs... on tapes!

Romanticly and tragicly missing my boyfriend, and by now a full fledged Smith's fan, I was "sneaking off" to shop in Orange at The Pink Elephant or Penny Lane, or on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood to get vintage clothes at Ardvark's, and to check out the Hollywood Sunset Strip scene...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The Wisky, Roxy, Troubadour, (and let's not forget Fenders in Long Beach), following around the bands I liked.

Back then, a Mosh Pit was known as "Slam Dancing", an activity I very much enjoyed partaking in. The more thrashed my mustard Monkey Boots were, the better, and I wore my bruises like badges of honor.
How I got away with that too, I'll never know. Sometimes I can't believe all the stupid and crazy stuff I did back then... I'm lucky to be alive!

Here I am at my Jr. Prom, still only 16 years old. Do I look happy?
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I cried my eyes out at the end of that night... But the sun would eventually come out to shine once more...and it seemed to happen allot faster back then too.

The summer before my Senior Year, I started going steady with a boy that I subsequently met in summer school.
He was very much into the Rock-A-Billy scene which I thought was the ULTIMATE coolest!
This Pic is from my Senior Year Book... We are at Cloud 9 inside of Knott's Berry Farm for our Homecomming dance...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
My boyfriend Ian is the guy standing behind me next to the 9.
We had allot of fun dressing in the clothes of the 40's & 50's.... althought a bit "over the top" at times!

Much to my surprise, I was voted as "Most Unusualy Unique" along with Randy Johnson, for out Senior Year Book. I couldn't believe it!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Straight after High School, while I was stlll only 17, I moved out on my own and started working full time at
Subway Sandwiches

which tied me over for few years.

After dating for three years and some odd months, me and my High School Boyfriend broke up and I started working retail at
The Broadway... and HATED every minute of it.
Partially because I was having a hard time with the break-up,
but mostly because... retail BLOWS!
I lasted there only 6 months.

But who would've known that Paul, our friendly warehouse clerk would later become the internationally famous Punk/Trendy clothes and accessories designer PAUL FRANK.
I think that's Frickin Awesome!
Recognize his famous Trademark?

Or this one?
Image hosting by Photobucket
Image hosting by Photobucket Image hosting by Photobucket
I LOVE the style and I think that it is very, very cute.... but also can be very, VERY expensive!
Image hosting by Photobucket
(You GO Paul!!)

I also took a couple of classes for personal interest at Golden West, a local community college:
Vocal Performance, Television Production and Camera Operation, Movie Appreciation, and Career Placement.
But I didn't have the tenacity to stick with school...
So much for the "Career Placement"!

It was right about at that time that I became your friendly neighborhood DENNY'S Waitress working the GRAVEYARD shift (11:00pm-7:00am... in the smoking section back in the day) that threw "Dennite" parties of LEGENDARY status.

The underground after midnight world of The "Goth" Dennite was one of those "You just had to be there" things.
But real "Dennites", as we knew them, became extinct ever since the restarant smoking ban went into effect here in California sometime in the mid 90's.

Alas, while I was still waitressing, I met, fell in love, and married a Dennite. So lucky me even did the married and divorced thing in my early 20's too...

What a turbulent ride that was! Those who were there, like my friend DAVE (DRMMP) that worked at Denny's with me, know the whole story.

After my divorce, I went through my "Marilyn" phase.
Image hosting by Photobucket
I loved her not just because she was beautiful and glamorous...
Image hosting by Photobucket Image hosting by Photobucket
But also because she was STRONG and SEXY....
Image hosting by Photobucket Image hosting by Photobucket
And PLAYFUL, with a SMART sense of humor...
Image hosting by Photobucket Image hosting by Photobucket

But also.... secretly sad.
Image hosting by Photobucket Image hosting by Photobucket
I LOVED Her!
Image hosting by Photobucket
It was at this time that I started hanging out at Centerfeild's Sports Bar for their Karaoke, clinging to something that use to bring me happiness (singing), looking to make new friends, and challange myself to actually get up on stage in front of others. I was so nervous!

It was a few months into that, and with the help of some VERY strong Long Island Ice Teas... that I discovered my real singing voice... And the "new" me... the REAL me that was sleeping inside and wanted to come out, was finally "born".
Image hosting by Photobucket

I have to say, I have had some crazy ups and downs. But I also have had that signature Sagittarian Good Luck from time to time. Strange coincidences always seem to land me on my feet... or pull me into new and unexpected directions that strangely resemble what my heart was quietly wishing for.

I also consider my self to be pretty darn lucky to have had a secure and stable job through out all my life's trials and tribulations.... not to mention that it's also a very interesting place to work at too because we have a highly intelligent INTERNATIONAL staff, going around speaking in several different languages; laughing and joking all the time.

Image hosting by Photobucket
What exactly is it that they do here where I work? Well... if I tell you, I will have to KILL you...HA! One neat thing though, is that I have made friends from all over the world.... how cool is that!

I will NEVER forget my first few months there. You never know when you are going to make a new friend. The girl that trained me on the phones made me laugh so hard my sides ached!

That girl was my friend MARY (Miss Mary Mac). We were co-workers for only a few months..
But 13 years ago, we became friends for life!

That's right! For the past 13 YEARS, I have stayed at the same company that has been more like a family to me than a job... which was also a nice thing to have while working at night being in a cover band.

I had a bit of a Clarke Kent / Superman complex. In the day, I was kind of a "Plain Jane".. but then I would put in my very thick and painful contact lenses and change my entire look...
Nerdy receptionist by day... "Rock Star" by night!

But then, in the spring of 2003, I had special eye surgery that freed me from my nerdy glasses forever. "Lasik" would not correct my vision... instead, I have two silicone lens implants in each eye. An AMAZING gift... and yet, I feel as if I have lost a part of my identity. Hmmm...
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Life is strange, and time is a funny thing too... I still like to go to the movies, but I hate paying full price.
I like depressing songs, but I LOVE bright colors.
I don't like most of T.V because I hate mindless relationship "reality" drama (let alone the torture of commercials), but I will watch a movie in three parts spread out over several days anytime.

I use to like partying all night in clubs and bars, and even more so at my own place (where I have been for the past 12 YEARS!)... where I painted the walls all in different bright colors... and dialed it in with a huge bar aptly named "The Star Bar" because it has two big white stars on it.

And somehow, I managed to fit a full-size Pool Table into the kitchen/den area... perfect for just hangin with a few friends... and also for those huge themed parties that I use to have, such as my famous "Anti-Valentine's Day" Parties, and Halloween Parties, making them VERY memorable events indeed.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
The best "Night Club" was at my place!

Now... I'm mostly on the go all the time doing things with my family:
my MOM, my SISTERS and their kids...
(and one of my nephew's is already 20 years old!)...Wow!
And of course spending time with my friends, whom are also very special to me...and a handfull of them have kids too
so I'm "Auntie Rita" to most of them as well! :)

On a day when I have a spare moment, I prefer quietly "lounging" at home, or at a friends house, having coffee... or mixing a few drinks!

Good company, candles, conversation, and laughter... And yeah, on occasion... we still get the party started!!
Now that I'm all "grown-up", the art of mixing drinks has now been perfected to... an art!
Image hosting by Photobucket
I also still like to go out for a drink once in a while too.
(Johnny's Saloon is allot of fun especially at the end of the night).

But I have to admit, things aren't quite the way they use to be... Embarrassing to say, but I get tired allot sooner, and my tolerance (for nearly everything) has gone WAY down.

But on the upside, I think understand myself and human nature better... and what I want out of life... which is...

A full-time MAID! Good lord!
Doesn't life sometimes seem like a constant battle of laundry and dishes?

On a daily basis, I don't like to cook, but I would if I had someone to cook for... AND if I had a better kitchen to do it in!

And I'm EXTREMELY nostalgic... Disney's cool, but The Muppets RULE!!

When I was young, I use to act as animated and "Muppet like" as possibe as a way to "scare off" anyone who thought that I was weird. I suppose I was doing some kind of a test to subconciously weed out the mean people, as if my nerd glasses weren't doing the trick already!

But now that I'm all "grown up", my animated and goofy self only comes out in certain circumstances...

What happens to you as you get older? I guess you can say I've become somewhat of a cynic...struggling to stay positive... even if it kills me! Layers upon layers of experiences... molding and changing us...
Growing Up Against Your Will.

It kills me that young people in their 20's see me as "old" or ignorant; mistaking "burn-out" as blatant disinterest and inexperience.

It kills me that people my age and older mistake my youthful style and behavior as being immature, iresponsible, or in denial.

It kills me that most people are not aware of their own "flaws" and weakness and how it effects (hurts) the people around them...

It kills me that most people are just simply not... aware.

Even worse... being "aware" and doing what's easy instead of what's right...

I am not happy all the time...as a matter of fact sometimes I struggle these days. But I try to act happy most of the time as to not bring anyone else down...

So even still, what most people notice at first, is that I am...
VERY animated, goofy... and loud!
Go figure...

But in actuality, my mind is usually off somewhere contemplating life, existence, and how the world would be a better place if people would just be more honest with themselves, and others, practice the art of AWARENESS without judging, and realize that what they say and do DOES have an impact... even on a stranger.

My favorite song right now is "Fix You" by Coldplay. And my favorite colors are Purple, Orange, Lime Green, Hot Pink, Turquoise, and anything that glitters.
