My Good Eye is the latest creative incarnation for husband and wife songwriting duo Brooke Fox and Kurt Gellersted from Brooklyn, NY.
Fox, who has released two independent albums of acoustic pop songs, spent much of the last five years playing shows all over the country. Her music, which is often compared to artists Patty Griffin and Ricky Lee Jones, has garnered several songwriting awards and has been heard on XM and NPR Radio.
Gellersted has played drums in several Chicago bands, written requiems and quartets, and found recent success creating music for television. His “It’s So Bizarre” main theme can be heard in this season’s offering of Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel.
My Good Eye marks a definite modern shift in sound for Fox and Gellersted, drawing influence from electro, dreamy rock music by Ida, Jeremy Enigk, Imogen Heap, The Fire Theft, American Analog Set, Postal Service, The Sundays, Death Cab For Cutie, Stars, Elliot Smith, Owen, Portishead and The Cocteau Twins.
Fox and Gellersted had only collaborated loosely as a pop duo before they were invited to write a song for a horror film directed by Charles Band (Puppetmaster, Troll). The scene called for a trancelike “Zero-7” vibe. Gellersted’s production savvy and quick ear for melody met Fox’s ethereal voice and detail for lyric. That song “Disassemble You” set the tone for a collection of new material the duo is currently recording in their Williamsburg, Brooklyn studio.
I truly love this song -- just listening to it again: its HYPNOTIC. Especially love the line, "she'll unplug your heart and you're head will never know"...
Can't wait to see what the future holds for your band!
