Somebody doing something he really loves to do :-)
After more than 20 years living, working and playing in England, I returned
to Ireland at the start of 2008.
This coincided with the realisation that either my amplifiers were getting
heavier or I was getting older. No longer able to make a decent living playing
music, some might say I sold out and returned to my previous occupation as
a software developer.
Those who know me a bit better, understand that I like to eat EVERY day and
the chance to find some serious fulfillment as a code-cruncher was an offer I
just couldn't refuse - well, that and the money too....
So, now back in Ireland and making up for lost time in the cut and thrust of IT, I could easily be tempted to air-brush out my former, bohemian life as a
minstrel and settle for middle-aged, middle-class, normality. (Hey, after everything that has happened I finally get a shot at NORMALITY... can you believe it?)
However, when music is in your DNA it is not something that you do, it is something that you are. Consequently, in spite of the great changes which have taken place in my own life in the past few years, I am still actively seeking that perfect (practically religious!) musical experience.
Ireland has changed as I have changed as you have changed - but the soul
of this great little Country is still here somewhere. It may have been
obscured somewhat by the unaccustomed economic wealth of the past decade or two, but then Ireland's wealth was never really measured in Euros, Punts, Pounds or Dollars anyway.
The real wealth of the country has always been found in the soul of its
people, the vibrancy of its culture and the beauty of its landscapes.
I have returned to the land of my birth and of my youth - a very different man from the man who left more than 20 years before - to reconnect with my own roots and rediscover my own culture.
It is still such a beautiful country and we will eventually find a way of turning
rain into cash - or electricity - or even just something warm and dry.
So the music goes on......
Love, Light and Blessings to one and all....
Frank :-)
