HorseQuest's Blurbs |
About me:
In 1996, I was working for Corporate America. I left for work at 5:30am and returned at 5:30pm. My husband also worked full time and our son spent 11 hours a day in daycare.
My husband and I wanted to have a second child, but our schedules were too intense. I decided something had to change, so I figured out a way to quit my job, start my own business and work from home.
I had grown up on a horse ranch and my life's long dream was to work in the horse industry. The Internet was booming, so I decided to start an on-line equestrian community.
I was not a programmer, but I also did not have the budget to hire one. I hoped to find software to help me, so I dialed into the Internet and looked for recommendations. I joined a couple chat rooms and took the advice from the best of the best.
At that time (1996), the general consensus regarding web editors was: "they are not worth their packaging". I was told to hard code my site in HTML. That posed one little problem: I didn’t know HTML. I bought a book, taught myself HTML and that was that.
I launched http://www.horsequest.com in 1996 and by 1998 I was making enough money on HQ to quit my job and work full time from home.
Yes, it took me two years and no I am not getting wealthy, but I am still working from home close to my kids. Some of my best HorseQuest memories are of my second son sleeping in my lap as I programmed away on HorseQuest.
I am still the one and only staff member at HorseQuest. I don't have the marketing budget of my big hitting competitors but HorseQuest.com holds its own with a loyal customer base.
The story of how HorseQuest came to be may not be glamorous or worthy of any public notoriety, but it is a success story for me and my family. After 12 years HorseQuest is still going strong, and I am still plugging away.
I hope you find HorseQuest a worthwhile site to bookmark and tell your friends about. Thanks for reading and please add HorseQuest as a friend.
Yours Truly,
Deann DaSilva
