Evan Laurence (Cricket)
Evan has appeared as Bob Cratchit and Fezziwig (in the same show) in a Community Theater version of Romulus Linney’s A Christmas Carol, Sebastian in Nicky Silver’s Raised in Captivity and the preacher in David Mamet’s A Sermon, a curtain-raiser for Sexual Perversity in Chicago. He starred in the well reviewed Twinges From the Fringe, Bob Jude Ferrantes 20 short comedy plays in which Evan had 13 roles. Evan founded the improv troupe Silly String Theory and is also a puppet maker and puppeteer. He has written many comedy sketches, character monologues, songs and short plays, performed at Don’t Tell Mama, Carolines, StandUp NY and his last production of Suck Sale…and other indulgences earned him rave reviews. My Inner Mark Berman is Evan’s first musical and hat-making excursion.
David F. Slone, Esq. (Rabbi Kishka Meldman)
David most recently co-produced, co-wrote and performed in Angela Harriell's Nutcracker: Rated R. Other favorite roles include Manuel/Moira/Vexuur in Evan Laurence's Four Better Or Worse?, Rev. Bone in Jack Bump’s Sportf*ckers (dir. David Soul), The Old One in Jean Giraudoux’s Ondine (dir. Jill Samuels), The Savage in Elijah Aaron’s The Elijah Plays (dir. Winsome Brown), Trixie, the 300lb. Monster, in Dan Dzindzihashvili’s Mr. America & His Russian Courage (Dir. David Levine).
Christopher Noffke (Nurse Terry Sass-Poo)
Christopher is originally from Indiana, and now resides in Manhattan. He was last seen in Hello Dolly at the Papermill Playhouse in NJ, and in the concert version of the new musical "Hells Kitchen" at the TRIAD. Other regional credits include Funny Girl (Eddie Ryan), Grease (Eugene), Dames At Sea (Lucky), Cabaret (Bobby), Tommy (Hawker), Damn Yankees (Ozzie), and West Side Story (Action). Christopher is also a choreographer and has shown his work for theatre, show choir and dance teams all over the midwest and east coast. He recently choreographed Go, Dog, Go for the Manhattan Children’s Theatre this past February. Thanks to Evan, for an experience that is sure to be "out there" for me.
Danny Smith (Head of Hospital)
Danny is a total hack who has some non-equity tour credits and a theatre degree. He credits what little talent he has to copying much better actors.
Richard C. Lurie (Sergeant Misconception)
Richard is happy to return to Theater for the New City . He was last seen here as Peter in Soul Searching (Matt Okin, dir), and also as Berk Givens in Cherry Hill (Spencer Chandler, dir). Richard also performs as a member of Creative Interventions, an issues-based improvisational theatre troupe. Additionally, he has trained with Chicago City Limits under Kimmy Gatewood and Morgan Phillips. No misconceptions were harmed in the making of this production.
Starring Evan Laurence, David F. Slone, Esq., Christopher Noffke, Danny Smith and Richard C. Lurie.
Mark Berman has so given up on life after being jilted by his "true love," that he’s developed an alternate personality, the outrageous Cricket Santiago, who has taken over. Mark is committed to a sanitarium, where Rabbi Kishka Meldstein and Cricket’s faithful caretaker, Nurse Terry Sass-Poo, the preoperative transsexual, are sent to cure him. The Rabbi and Nurse Terry soon discover they are in the same boat as Mark Berman – living life without really being themselves. Presented in an absurdist, farcical style, My Inner Mark Berman promises an unforgettable musical and theatrical experience.
Evan Laurence is the writer/songwriter/star of the show and has been producing and starring in productions for Theater For The New City for the past three years. He is the creator of the improv troupe Silly String Theory and has performed at Rose’s Turn, Don’t Tell Mama, Caroline’s, HERE, The Sanford Meisner Theater and The Gene Frankel Theater to name a few. He is an avid puppeteer and has created life size puppets for many venues. All of the hats for this show are designed and produced by Evan.
