Mykljoans Check, check, check. Anyone still checkin' me here. I'm pretty much fb dedicated theez days. But holla if you feel me. Feel me? Posted at 10:18 AM Oct 10 view more
About me: I am a strange man in a stranger land. I love music and to dance to it. Love to play it for others to be moved by. I have a love/hate relationship with writing, mostly poetry. Love because the act of articulating experience in all its forms, manifest or merely imagined, has been such a gift to me. Hate because the same act has provided some of the most difficult insight to that which has troubled me so in this life.
I lived most of my life in California; mostly Los Angeles and 7 years in Santa Cruz before moving to Boulder, Colorado three years ago to pursue an MFA in writing and poetics. I've got two more units to finish before being officially done. During that time I lost both my mother and sister--dad was gone a long time ago. My mom at Christmas time '03 and my sister this past July. So I'm going through alot of soul searching, dirt digging and just plain fuckin' agony these days.
My friend Tracie calls me "a sweet soul." Sometimes I agree. Sometimes I think maybe I'm a little sensitive for this world. I pay attention to alot in it and have a hard time letting some of it go. I feel deeply. Lucky for me I have music and poetry/writing. Who knows where I'd be if not for them.
I've performed poetry, solo and with others, for crowds of up to 800 people, once as an opener for Saul Williams. Imagine that a sold out show for poetry! Been published in poetry journals such as Bombay Gin, Sliding Uteri, and internet zines such as www.mentalcontagion.com (August '06). I also have a blog at mykljoans.blogspot.com. I've dj'd on radio--KZSC, Santa--Cruz and for various size crowds of folks from house parties to the Boulder Theater. And I've co-hosted a national affairs show on Free Speech TV called Sourcecode.
