In the year 2001, four young minds turned a dream into a reality when their musical experience merged. Now some six years later after relentless touring, airplay, four music videos, awards and entering the Official New Zealand Top Ten, the band has decided to take a different approach to their music and songwriting.
“We used to listen to a lot of pop-punk music and so that’s how our music came out, but we came to realize that wasn’t us”. The band began broadening their music horizons said bassist Matt. “We started listening to rock gems, Coldplay, U2 and Radiohead for example”. The band started experimenting with hints of synth and strings and turned the Piano into a dominant feature of the band. Add to this, soaring vocals, a pulsing rhythm section, the delayed guitars and even acoustic moments and My Life Story seem to have found the perfect blend between the heart of Rock and the sheer beauty of Pop.
The bands highlight to date is being invited to play Edge Fest 06 allowing them to play with some of the worlds tops bands and playing to over 40,000 in four dates.

To celebrate the release of Their 2nd album “The Orchid Door”, Selon Recliner are sharpening their chopsticks & oiling the Lazy Susan for a Buffet & Show at the classic & infamous New Orient restaurant, where deep in the basement of the Strand Arcade time has stopped still. With a complimentary “Orchid Door” Cocktail on arrival, and the New Orient’s famous Buffet to arouse your appetite, DJ Jimmy Olsen and VJ Grafix will add extra seasoning and get the night spinning. As the tastes settle and ambience is absorbed the bamboo curtain will pull back on The Orchid Door as Selon Recliner take over the old parquet dance floor.
