i build these lightboxes from found items and things that people give me. none of these items are thrifted. i call them lightboxes because they have a feel that can be manipulated depending on the direction and the intensitiy of the light that is pointing towards the box.
i build shadow boxes also. they are they ones that have the doors on them. when the doors are open they are lightboxes.
i collect junk and machines that dont work. i think that the innards of machines and electronics are interesting in a strange way because they resemble the workings of the human body. the wires look and function like veins, but instead of channeling red bood, they channel electric energy.
i like to keep things around that people think are used up. folks dont realize, when they use somthing, they put a part of themselves in that thing. that is why i like to keep old things around. inanimate objects that have spent time with a living soul begin to reflect that persons life. i think about that when i see something that is old. i wonder about it's history and the people that lived around it. old things reflect life. look around, you can see it.
i like to throw these things together as a break from the monotony of my cabinet business. boxes are good for all sorts of things.
i have fun when i make these. this is not folk art. this is not pop art. i am in the dexateens. my wife and children are the most important things.
Music

About me: i am in the dexateens. i am a family man. i am a cabinet maker. i make these boxes because it is fun. some of these lighboxes are for sale. i make custom lightboxes for friends and other people that bring me an idea or special items. i like to build speaker cabinets for bass and guitar. i have built a few hurdy gurdies that dont work very well. i am designing my own style of hurdy gurdy that runs on a ceiling fan motor and uses electric guitar pick ups. i like sonic feedback and interesting noise. i design tattoos for people that ask me too. i ramble, but i am fun to talk to.

One of these days, I'm going to find me a wife, and find me a house, and find me a big wide bed to put in said house. And my Hillbilly Flux Capacitor lightbox is really going to tie the room together.
elliott, your boxes are absolutely wonderful. There's something about the medium, the idea, the _box_ that's so endearing, familiar, and so close to the heart. Thank you for sharing this.
I have been busy on tour with Conor Oberst and The Mystic Valley Band and haven't had a chance to tell you about my new record! It's called "Bad Little Kitty" and it came out back in July. There are a few tracks to sample on my MySpace but you can also check it out on iTunes or on my own website, www. TaylorHollingsworth. com. Thank you for continuing to be a friend and I hope you like the new collection of songs.
It was a pleasure seeing you perform some of your solo stuff in Athens the other weekend. Don Chambers was phenomenal too. It was a hard decision, but I thought the blue stripe was too hard to pass up; still eyeing the lace box though. Good luck and see ya next time~M
always great to see you, even if for only seconds. i should be in tuscaloosa sometime soon, we'll have to grab a beer. I'm still waiting for a lightbox of my very own. hope all is well in your new south.
