MySpace a place for friends

Redboy's new project is an ambitious concept album, a musical drama telling the tragic tale of a young musician, talented but tortured, lost between dreams and reality (based on the life of Brian Wilson). This modern Pop Opera is the culmination of more than two years of relentless writing by the four multi-instrument musicians.

The musical universe includes fairy tale pop, with orchestral arrangements (more than 30 instruments on some songs) evoking Mercury Rev and Bernard Herrmann (Hitchcock's soundtracks), the haunted melodies of Arcade Fire and Nick Cave set amongst a “surreal, haunted cabaret” not far from Tom Waits or Flaming Lips, similar to Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust. Several guest musicians took part in the project, including MERCURY REV, ALAMO RACE TRACK and BLACK HEART PROCESSION.

At the same time, the band is working with a film director and a scenograph on a live performance of a kind of cool Opera Pop, with imitation of an American city of the Fifties and projections on skycrapers, a production that is neither too big nor too intimate, fit to clubs and festivals of the international rock scene. The idea is to focus on a strong visual identity, including major concepts into every aspect of the album and shows, from the CD box and booklet to posters, T-shirts, merchandising and, this time... to the sets, costumes and live performances, with the help of Félicie Haymoz, a young illustrator based in New York who just finished working on visuals and character design of a forthcoming project of Wes Anderson (The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic, The Darjeeling Limited) and of a full-length Max and Co. animated feature.

After 2 years of writing and recording in several studios, the 13-song album is wholly recorded now, and the band offers you a foretaste of it, with several rough mixes. The band is about to mix the album this summer with different producers, including John Congleton (Grammy nominated producer, who has worked with Modest Mouse, Polyphonic Spree, The Roots, Black Moutain,...) and Frans Hagenaars (Bettie Serveert, Alamo Race Track,...)

The album should be released at the end of 2009/beginning of 2010, and the first tour is already planned for early 2010 in several venues and theaters with a 15-piece classical orchestra, a Fifties US City set and video projections.
