so here's the story as we know it or kinda remember it.. MLF got together back in 1990 when everyone was at school.most of the band were 17. we entered the carling hot press competition and won it, think it was our 3rd gig, anyways a guy called richard brown signed us to island music in london. then it got interesting. every major label in the world wanted to sign us, my last memory before we eventually signed with Geffen was of a gig in Dublin Ireland when all the heads of A&R were in Leopardstown Racecourse for our gig and Alan screemed through the mike, "if you want to fucking sign us you better start dancing" Funny watching multi millionaires dance :)lol..
so the la centerfolds a los angeles strip group came to irealnd in 91, first time we'd ever seen anything like that in this country so being young dumb and full of cum as the say MLF had to go investigate. It just happened that A&R legend Tom Zutaut(Guns n Roses, Tesla, Motley Crew, Edie Bricell, Enya, Stone Roses etc) was in Dublin to meet us. Tom seemed interested in coming along:) so we got our booking agent Louis Walsh, now a big time pop manager to book us into the Olympia. Louis put us up the very back so we could see no action so I did a deal with Zutaut that if he got the LA Centerfolds back to the presidential suite of his Hotel that we'd sign with Gefffen Reords. We headed back and 20 minutes later the whole dance troup arrived for a private show.. Zutaut, what a legend !!!:)
So we signed with Geffen, biggest deal for a new band , went into the Guinness book of records..went to London to record our first record Standunder with Bill Price(sex pistols, gnr) at Air Studios on OXford Street, we were the last band ever to record there so george martin was popping in every day. recorded the record in 10 days, rock n roll !!!
to be continued .....
