With all of the great topics and subjects that the media has been exposing our fragile souls too, there is no shortage of subjects for healthy, funny discussion and debate – just like you would do on your own couch back home in your own living room! _________________________________________________________________________________________________ About the host… Cheryl McKenzie-Hoar is a former television producer and radio guest booker who has over 8 years experience in media related arts and entertainment and who has spent over 5 years running her own media, arts and entertainment company, BritGirl Productions. Filmmaker and producer Dave Cool who joins us in My Living Room to talk about his independant movie, What Is Indie? At a time when independent artists in the music industry have more power and control over their careers than ever before, "What is INDIE?" tries to determine just what it really means to be 'indie'. The film features interviews with indie music experts including Derek Sivers (CD Baby), Panos Panay (Sonicbids), and Suzanne Glass (Indie-Music.com), as well as with 20 artists including Ember Swift, Athena Reich, and Paul Cargnello. In defining what it means to be ’indie’, as well as looking at the changing landscape in the music industry, the film ends up being a rallying cry for indie artists, and has been hailed as ‘inspiring’ and ‘empowering’ by artists worldwide. Without any prior background in film (except for watching Super-Size Me "way too many times") and funded entirely with credit cards, Montreal director Dave Cool has taken the film from a small do-it-yourself project and turned it into an indie success story in its own right that continues to turn heads in the music and film industries, even catching the attention of CNN.com, Newsweek Magazine and Canada's National Film Board. The mandate of the Canadian Music Café is to showcase Canada’s vibrant music scene to film and television industry leaders from around the world. In doing so, The Café is now the crossroad where respected and influential taste- and decision-makers can network with Canadian songwriters, managers and labels to collaborate on the music/movie synthesis. Artists, their managers and labels who have showcased at the Café have gone on to see international distribution deals, North American commercial placements, have been featured in blockbuster and indie films, won Juno’s, ADISQ’s and countless other awards. Some of artists that have showcased at The Canadian Music Café include Buck 65, Ron Sexsmith, Chantal Kreviazuk, Jorane, Sarah Slean, K’naan, Jully Black, Molly Johnson, DJ Champion, Kid Koala, The Trews, Stabilo, The Russian Futurists, Keshia Chante, Mobile, Tomi Swick, and The Road Hammers.
