Sep 28 2008 10:07 AM haha i think agree to disagree would be the quickest escape route from this debate. yeah haha um i dont remember u saying why. haha u just didnt feel like going to uni for a semester? fair enough haha. at least ur working and stuff, keeping busy is always good. hahah yeah. for the next 2months we do, although parts of the holidays have to be spent studying so its not reaal holidays. but we do get 3 sets of 2weeks of holidays a year plus summer holidays. which is always good. butyess im so ready. i cant wait to finish hey. theres so much to look forward to this summer i just want to get out haha. haha yes. rottnest has the most amazing beaches. so i cant wait. um wellll im gonna go straight to uni next year i think. i think after 3months of holidays ill be ready to get back into something. but i have a couple friends in canada im planning on going to visit in july next year during uni holidays, so that should be fun. ill get 2 summers and hardly any winter haha :D xx kate. Sep 28 2008 5:57 AM haha slightly. im probably as much to blame as u are. wow thats cool haha. yeah u did say u were taking a semester off. sounds like uv been so busy. so i can understand the lack of talking haha. yeah exactly. id rather be busy than not and bored anydayy. shenanigans? hahah i wouldnt say that exactlyyy. well i had exams all this week and last. so thankgod theyr over. and then i have 2weeks of holidays. then 2weeks of school. then a week of study leaave. then another 3weeks of exams. then im donee. i have leavers then which is like a week in which everyone in yr12 goes either down south or to this island called rottnest which is about 30mins off the coast of perth. everyone just hangs out with friends and drinks and have parties and stuff so it should be goodd. im excited to finish :) but for now i have to get my ass back into study mode after iv just finished exams lol which is annoying. but its only a few weeks wasted for a lot more benefits. so i cant complain too much hey. butyeh so lately iv just been studying and before that having a few last gatherings with friends to have fun before exams. and noww hanging out with friends for a bit but i need to study soonish too lol :( xxx kate. Jun 24 2008 11:10 AM like our school will tell people to not do TEE which are uni entrance subjects, if they dont think they'll pass or do well enough to get into uni. everyone that applies to uni gets in at my school. and everyone graduates. haha yeah. u dont want to be studying ur ass off wen ur overseas. that would suck. u needa have fun and stuff if u go overseas to study. yeah and parents get their views from the media. by the time someone is an adult they will have formed some of their own opinions and views that their parents have enforced in them. and those have probably come from their friends and the media. its like wen ur a teenager. i value different things to my parents and i dont agree with everything my parents see as important to the same extent. and its probably partially because of the media, which is bad. but its the way it is. i know from a baby ur not going to be influenced by the media. but as a teenager thats one of the major influences on ur values. the media just reinforces the values people want to see to sell products or get people to watch their shows. but they can do the opposite too and challenge values or endorse values that some people dont agree with. yeah. im not just blaming Foxnews. because obviously not everyone is influenced by them. but they are easy to pinpoint because there are heaps of things u can use as examples to illustrate how bias it is. none of the news channels hear are that obviously bias. they are, because like u said, they all are in ways. but not as obvious as something like Foxnews. haha yeah. that parts funnyy. yeah. i dunno. like if i knew that almost every family i know owned a gun, or there was like a gun in every house i went into, iii would feel a little uneasy. like my first instinct would be to run if i saw someone with a gun like in the street, even if they didnt look in any way threatening. ummm not really? haha. so wait. if there were prohibitions on guns or alcohol, it would make them more appealing to kate. Jun 24 2008 11:10 AM yeah i guess. but we dont have actual cameras like installed at a lot of places. or else people would just know not to speed in those particular areas, and speed everywhere else. so we have like portable speed cameras that they move around. usually hide them in the bushes so people dont know theyr there and dont think to not speed. effective enough i guess. i dunno. lol yeah. they should. it would probably help with that issue i guess. or else they could just paint a cross walk on the road and problem solved.. yeah but i guess some parents dont think about it. or it isnt on the forefront of their minds. so if they made something like it then it might help. just like bike riding, we had like a course u did called bike ed. where it was just like practising riding round the streets on the road and stuff. nobody really paid much attention, but i guess it at least drilled in the basics. yes. exactly haha. if ud reaaad wat id said properly then u would have figured it out and wouldnt have got ur hopes up so much. because i am never goingg to admit that im more awesome. haha yeah. iv only had like 9weeks of school (with 2 weeks off for exams in the middle) of school and my head is screaming 'i need a break' sooooo badd. onlyy a week and 2days till holidayss =] ahk but i thought the test was like insanely easy? so the average is just really low, which is why its so easy? yeah lol. u americans just tryy to be smarter than the rest of the world by making a smart complex system. buuut in reality, it just makes u look stupid because u have a retarded system instead of a simple one that actually makes sense haha. well yeah we say that too. the only year that actually counts towards our uni entrance is yr12. i mean if u dont do well in yr10 and 11 it can limit wat subjects u can do in yr12. but its not like if u fail subjects its the end of the world. yr12 is the one that really counts. yeah we have that. its all about reputations. like our school wi kate. Jun 18 2008 10:16 AM but a lot of people dont because theyr too heavily influenced by the media or by their families or watever it is. i mean we were talking in media today about like wat shapes our views and like wat u think of certain things and why. and our teacher asked us wat we thought of the islam religion, and this girl in our class (who is possibly one of the dumbest people i know) was just like theyr bad. everyone just like rolled their eyes because shes so racist and she'll believe anything anyone tries to tell her. its just really frustrating wen people cant seem to tell the difference between wat is fact and wen people are so obviously trying to persuade u to view something in a particular way. which i guess america mainly is the one influencing opinions on islams by accusing them as being all terrorists. yeahh thats true. buut where does their family's opinions and perceptions of the world come from? mainly the media. like i guess people who raise children so politically bias, it would partially come from the area they live in, like how some southern states are insanely patriotic and pro-bush. but like a lot of their perceptions and views on the government would come from the media and news shows like fox news that only give viewers limited information for them to make their judgements on. haha yeah. i know wat u mean. i never feel like im making sense late at night. so were watching another documentary in media. its thee bowling for columbine one. u seen it? its really good. they had like footage of the shootings at the school and um michael moore interviewed all these people on gun control and um one of the Nichols brothers that was supposedly involved with the Oklahoma bombing. who, by the way looks completely crazy. and yeah like some of the things they say just make u think. like um how people accuse Marrylin Manson of being a huge influence over those kids at Columbines actions. and then he goes and talks to him and hes actually like really smart an kate. Jun 18 2008 10:15 AM freshman, sophmore, senior, colleges, middle schools. that just confuses the hell out of me. i think our terms are much better. we have primary school, (1-7) highschool (8-12), uni, then we just use yr levels instead of branding people sophmores or freshmans or watever. then we have public and private schools. mines private. wow lol u have soo many requirements. we just have like yr8-10 u do maths, science, english and social studies, which in yr8 and 9 is split into geography and history and yr10 is split into geog, history, economics and politics. u do a language prettymuch all through primary school then u have to learn one in yr8. then it becomes an option. u do sections of art, drama, media, music, cooking in yr8. then they become options after then. and then in yr11 u can prettymuch do watever u want. except u havee to do english. and science is broken up into chem, physics, human biol and biol. u just have to do at least 5 subjects in yr11 and 12. but its not a requirement that u pass anything in particular. except english iff u want to get into uni. but even then u can do a separate entrance exam i think if u fail by less than 5 or 10%. yeah well like some kids dont pass here. my school prettymuch prides itself on having 100% graduating rate like every yr. and if they dont think u can get a good score in ur uni entrance exam, they encourage u not to do it at all because they dont want u to bring their averages down. haha yeah. well myy school and even australian schools in general appear to be so much more difficult than the schools iv heard about in some other countries. oh ok. well thats cool. wen would u go to study overseas. haha depends on wat type of stuff ud rather do and experience as to where u go. yeah haha. i dont like smart people who are really arrogant. gets on my nerves. even if it is justifiable in some way because they are so smart.. its still annoyingg. well yeah, i mean some people believe it. but a lot of people dont b kate. Jun 15 2008 6:49 AM its just a shame that. no haha. nope. u cant turn that one around. ur words that said longer comments make me more awesome. therefore if u leave even longer comments than me, by ur definition, u are more awesome. im not giving upppp lol. yeah haha. yeah ours is similar except ours is split into 4 terms, so we get more holidays than u lol. cos we get 2 weeks off for winter spring and autumn. and then the same as u for summer holidays. u only get summer holidays, 3weeks for winter and 1week for spring. yeah we get like easter, queens birthday, foundation day. stuff like that off. we get at least 1 long weekend every term, usually more. so is the test just like basic maths and english skills and stuff? thats really weird but wouldnt everyone pass eventually cos u have like 2yrs to pass it over and u can keep taking it until u eventually pass, how can u not? butyeah thats true. so theres not a certain amount of classes they have to pass or anything like that? just this one test? ahk. yeah in yrs 11 and 12 we onlyy have to do english or lit. yrs 8 9 10 u have to do social studies, maths, english and science and then it breaks up. so u can go through yr11 and 12 and not have to do any maths or sciences. which is good i guess because u can choose the subjects that most benefit wat u want to do in the future or that ur good at so u can get good marks to get into uni. a few monthssss? so if u just study all the stuff u can just go take this test and ur a lawyer if u pass? thats weirddd lol. here, we just have a straight out course at uni thats law and i think it gets specialised towards the last years of the course. but i think its a 4yr course. but its apparently sooooo much theory, i dont think i could hack it lol. yeah here we can do uni part time if ur working and stuff. like some people do night uni courses part time cos they work full time. and u can defer at any 6month or full year point. some unis even have ties with overseas ones so u can get kate. Jun 14 2008 6:34 AM (lets ignore that its owned by an australian haha) and how like bullshit it is because it favours the right wing soo heavily. like the interviewees on the show are at like a 5:1 ratio of republicans and democrats, and everytime a democrat is interviewed and they say anything against the government theyr cut off and told to shutup. which seems retarded. and like in the last election they had like countdowns until bush gets re-elected. and like they painted the opposition out to be a liar and french lol and apparently thats really bad because the french are the ones who discovered there was something dodgy about the americans reporting of the attack on the pentagon because the damage doesnt even like fit an aeroplanes size and they think it was like americans who attacked it or something i dunno lol ud probably know more about it than me. and like the reporters every morning would get a list of things they can and cannot talk about and like this guy came on to talk about his dad who died in 9/11 and he said like one thing bad against bush and the reporter was all like i hope ur mothers not listening ur dad wouldnt like this and in the follow up the next day it was saying that the guy thinks bush knew about the 9/11 attacks and had a direct involvement with the attacks and all this bullshit that he never said. i cant believe such a huge number of americans watch that crap and believe it lol. it just seems so obviously bias that it confuses me how anyone could not notice it. rupert murdoch also owns the west australian newspaper lol which isnt so obviously bias. but i think it does still favour right wing somewhat. it just confuses me how people can turn such a blind eye, wen people are so obviously trying to indoctrinate them into a certain way of thinking. xxx kate. Jun 14 2008 6:34 AM then u go to a law school afterrr that to become a full lawyer or wat? so how long does it take to become a lawyer if u have to go through 2 different processes like that? yeah here we have a set number of years it takes to complete a course. the longest is 6yrs which is med. and then after that u can do an extra year if u want to specialise like do paediatrics or something. but there are courses like engineering which i know stay the same for the first year and then after that they branch into like civil engineering or chemical engineering or something like that. yeah so ur courses are like ours in that if u change majors, or change courses then u basically have to start from scratch. which is wat i dont want to do lol. i dont reaaally want to spend a year doing something then realise i dont want to do it and have to start all over again and not be any closer to finishing. thats my only issue lol yeahh thats the same with our unis. but do u only have like one uni per state? like we have 5 unis in perth. and each one offers most fields of study, but some are better with certain fields if that makes sense? like UWA (university of western australia) is really good at sciences and business, so if u wanted to do something like med or commerce or law theyr good at, ud go there. but then like Notre Dame is really practical based. so if u did physio there ud do a lot more practical in comparison to a uni like Curtain where its a lot more theoretical. so yeah it just depends on wat u want to study and how u prefer to learn. oh and ur marks i guess, like UWA has a higher entrance mark than other unis. yeah we dont have colleges like at aaalll. we just have different departments which teach different courses within them. but not colleges separating the uni. haha that does sound good. the title is everything, thats my opinion haha =] anyyyways. yesterday in media we watched this thing called outfoxed, i dunno if uv seen it but its about the fox news network (lets kate.
