Not long after graduating high school, Trevor Powers and Erik Eastman decided to convert their acoustic project into a full-fledged band. Shortly after their decision to expand, guitarist Spencer Rule was added to the mix. After many difficult months of member changes, they were eventually introduced to bassist Seth Cole, who moved from his hometown of Monmouth, Oregon to join the band.
Refusing to follow the industry’s mindset of “get rich or die trying,” My Paper Camera was formed with a much deeper goal than music alone. “We want people to leave our shows with something to chew on,” says Powers, “not necessarily to swallow... We are real people who struggle with real things, and we hope that comes out in our music. Our agenda is simple: to love. If we could encourage or love just one person at a show, I feel we have done our job.” That way of thinking is what motivates MPC to have such an energetic and passionate live show every time they walk on a stage.
“There is nothing quite as freeing as playing music that you feel from the bottom of your heart. We dance, shake, and sway through our whole set every show. There are different feelings in all of our songs that we can’t help but express when we play.”
After releasing their debut EP Faces in a Magazine, the band feels they are one step closer towards attaining their ambition of being on the road full-time. The six-song album, engineered/produced by Muse Labs in Boise, ID and mastered by Ed Brooks (Fleet Foxes, Death Cab for Cutie) at RFI in Seattle,WA, deals with issues ranging from self-acceptance to break-ups. “Faces in a Magazine does a good job of showing the pallet of musical influences that this band uses.” adds Rule. “It has hints of epic rock and more melodic sounds from our past, as well as a new and fresh takes on synth hooks and disco beat driven dance rock. The EP is really an encapsulation of our journey as band for the past two years.”
Recently, My Paper Camera has not only self-funded their own EP, but booked two west coast tours and has created a big enough stir in the Boise scene to be featured in Alternative Press magazine’s “Hometown Heroes” section. They are planning on a more constant touring schedule starting in March ’10.

Mae (formerly Capitol Records)
Sullivan (Tooth and Nail Records)
