With the non-stop streaming of information into our consciousness, how can a mind be imprisoned?
Herbert Simon, recipient of Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics and the A.M. Turing Award, the "Nobel Prize of Computer Science" put it this way.
"What information consumes is rather obvious: it consumes the attention of its recipients. Hence, a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention and a need to allocate that attention efficiently among the overabundance of information sources that might consume it."
The masses are dumbed down with the constant barrage of endless distraction, making the mind glide complacently into a dull haze. Like mental gluttons, our brains are not able to process most of the data and we sit paralyzed and passive. Controlled.
How many hours a day are we NOT engaged in some interaction with technology?
Any amount of time taken to still this process will allow a sprout of original thought to come jutting through the cracks in the concrete.
Like in the film "Contact" adapted from the book by Carl Sagan; "Small moves." Small moves in that direction.
