Bio
As their name suggests, My Sauce Good cook up a tempting array of slow cooked soulful folk, Jazz and Swing from nostalgic bygone eras. With femme fatale front lady Laura Brozky at the helm this trio takes you on a journey from the dark alleys of Mexico to the underground bars of gay Paris and everywhere in between. Argentinian-born Brozky casts her beautiful vocal spell, singing a combination of Spanish, French, Italian, Hebrew and English. Her unusual upbringing starting on a kibbutz in Israel and later arriving in Australia as a young girl has, she said, brought her closer to the Latin American folk and tango music her parents would play. Brozky states "I sing about stories that resonate with my own personal journey". This multi-faceted essence is evident in Brozky's deep feminine strength and the way she woos the crowd with sincerity and poise... Australian-born of Dutch descent, composer/arranger Dirk Kruithof plays a vibrant guitar accompaniment. "I came from a punk rock background and grew to love swing and other music with similar energy levels to what I was playing in those bands." Not surprisingly, he maintains the momentum with great gusto, driving the evening to levels of musical delight. Kruithof has been on the Sydney circuit with local bands Waiting for Guinness, Gypsy-dub-sound-system and On the Stoop. What sets My Sauce Good apart from their contemporaries is their clever use of dark narratives and tales of the sordid underground bohéme. Their dynamic repertoire includes witty originals, French Swing, soulful Latin-American folksongs, Jazz from the 1920's, a haunting Hebrew lullaby and aptly appropriated contemporary tunes. With tunes ranging from Tom Waits to the Andrews Sisters surprisingly we are left thinking about the ghostly murderess who killed her family in a jealous rage and promiscuous 'Johnny' the cad who got around Pigalle leaving a hoard of broken hearts in his wake.... So on a winter's night what better way to intrigue the mind and warm the cockles of your heart, mind and belly with a generous serving of My Sauce Good.... (Jessica Steiner, Artshub.) In August 2011, My Sauce Good played a memorable and sold-out performance at the Sydney Opera House. The band toured Europe in 2010, playing in Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, London, and all over Corsica, Italy and Ireland.... With an eclectic repertoire of original songs and covers, My Sauce Good is fun, familiar, flavoursome and stylish! Their self titled debut cd is out now! -
