Solstice defined is a furthest or culminating point, a turning point, or either of the two times a year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator. And if you know the members of My Solstice or their music, then you know the name fits them perfectly.
What was once an idea created underneath a star-filled California sky, has grown to become what Urban Tulsa Weekly calls, "a beautiful marriage of pop & hard rock", along with many other media publications across the midwest shouting praises of their own. Since forming in late 2006, the four piece group has become determined to set the world on fire, creating music with lyrics that inspire and motivate, all while keeping an intense nature to the rhythm and flow of each individual song. Always staying open minded and socially conscious in all aspects of writing, they seem to create music that almost anyone can relate to.
Since it's inception, My Solstice has successfully been featured on a hit reality show on ABC, established markets in 5 states across the midwest, along with receiving radio play on several mainstream & Internet radio stations throughout the country. They've also had the privilege of sharing the stage with Switchfoot, Sick Puppies, Sparta, The Myriad, Project 86, The Secret Handshake, Showbread, The Vanished, Mink, Athlete, InhaleExhale, The Feds, Capital Lights, Kessler, & many other great bands.
June 2007 saw the release of their debut album/EP titled "Beyond The Horizon". Selling thousands of copies by playing hundreds of shows & festivals in less than a year's time, traveling from Houston to Kansas City, and everywhere in between. Furthermore, My Solstice has been fortunate enough to receive nominations for awards from Tulsa World, Urban Tulsa Weekly, & more, in addition to receiving over 100,000 song plays on Myspace.com.
A little more than a year after their first release, the band will be releasing it's first full length album titled "Persistence Of Vision", featuring ten brand new songs that fully capture the sound and direction that My Solstice has set out to create. The album comes out in stores and online 8/5/08, and a Tulsa release show is scheduled for 8/9/08. In the meantime however, the band can be seen in most cities across the midwest, as they heavily promote the release of the new album, including a featured showcase at this year's Diversafest (www.dfest.com).
