Record labels across the United States and the World are able to check out the status of a band by seeing what kind of internet buzz has been created by a band by checking a band's MySpace profile. As a signed artist on an Independent label in the metal community, I have had the chance to speak to many label owners, and hear the many tactics they use to base the stature of a band and their potential. "We'll consider signing that band when they start getting a consistent 500+ plays a day." That has been spoken many a times by numerous label owners in my experience.

Booking agents work like salesman (to a certain degree): the more money they make for a band, the more money they make in "commission" (normally 10% or more of the band's guarantee). Booking agents pick what bands they take up based on their ability to perform, draw, and create buzz! If a booking agent sees that you are getting between 300-1,000 plays a day, there's a guarantee that you'll wind up grabbing an agent that will TAKE OVER booking duties for you!

Promotion companies that are putting on shows in your area or across the country tend to like to book bands that have a buzz to the point where people are hyping up shows.
