Life is a major influence; it would be hard to not be influenced in someway, whatever the genre, by artists such as Woody Guthrie, Hank Williams, Elvis, Bill Monroe, The Beat Writers, Jazz legends such as Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman; Blues legends Muddy Waters, B.B. King and Robert Johnson; The Beatles, The Stones, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. The soundtrack to life lived on the fringes....the music playing in your head when you get home but don't know how you got there.
Mystkdog began its musical journey in March of 2008 as the brainchild of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Todd Verts. Verts began to record songs to serve as the sonic basis for Mystkdog while gigging locally and searching for like-minded musicians. During this time, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Jack Benedict was writing, recording, and occasionally gigging locally as a solo act. Verts and Benedict were introduced by a mutual friend and a fast friendship was formed. Soon, they began kicking musical ideas around and threw in together to save bus fare. The music of Mystkdog is the result.
With the emphasis on telling stories of everyday life, Mystkdog is hard at work writing, arranging, and recording songs for a soon to be released cd, and tracks are posted in their various stages of development, as well as other interesting gems and out-takes.
