The mp3s above are works in progress. We begin our work with a drone in the key of the song and a tempo. We then build the instruments and instrumental breaks around the "bare bones" of the composition. Come back to hear how these songs develop. We may scrap them altogether, but that's alright too.
"Mythical Creatures" is a gathering of musical friends who come together to record and perform. Our current project is a collection of English folk songs about various menfolk from the repertoire of the English tradition. There are tales of brave men, sleazy men, timid men, sailors, lords, tailors, poachers and all manner of men in between. The recorded project "Men of Albion" will be out in 2010, and we'll hopefully be performing it at various venues to coincide with its release.
Our great heroes are the wonderful musicians of the band Malicorne which was formed in 1970's France. Mailicorne really pushed the edges of folk music and created something completely new and refreshing. Led by Gabriel Yacoub, the output of the band had a lasting effect on the members of our collective and we hope that we echo some of that magic in our music.
