MYTHICAL NUMBER is a Montreal band (Canada) formed in 2006 by singer/musician/songwriter Paskal Theriault and singer/lyricist Amelie Paul. Blended with ethnic, gothic and industrial influences, their music delivers an edgy rock/alternative sound saturated with catchy melodies and mellow harmonies that hook you in right from the start. With Paskal's powerful voice and Amelie's soft and haunting vocals, MYTHICAL NUMBER redefines the genre with two lead singers (Paskal is also guitarist) and with their music combining all of the sounds of their influences and then surpassing them. Their unique sound will surely allow them to leave their mark on the rock/alternative scene.
With meaningful yet poetic lyrics, MYTHICAL NUMBER contributes in its own way in spreading a spiritual and political message to expand the collective consciousness.
Amelie Paul and Paskal Theriault first met when they became lead singers of a pop band called Moxie, in summer 2005. Paskal was working on his first solo French album and Amelie was a well-known model, actress and TV host in Quebec. It's only after getting a first role in a musical that Amelie discovered her true passion, singing. She then gave up everything to join Moxie so she could gain the necessary stage and singing experience to start in the music business.
Paskal, on the other side, had been making music for 16 years. It's at the age of 15 that he learned to sing and play guitar and then later learned the bass, drums and piano. At 17, he joined his first band and started to play in clubs and cabarets around the province of Quebec. In the next 10 years, he played everywhere in Canada in different bands and even became Gene Simmons in a Kiss tribute.
On the other hand, Amelie was mostly into studying until she was 22. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Communications - Cinema at the University of Quebec in Montreal, she discovered she'd much rather be in front of the camera than behind. She started in the modeling business where she worked for many designers, traveled in Paris, London, New York, Los Angeles and won many modeling contests. Fashion will soon lead her to obtain roles in television and movies.
She got the offer to join Moxie while she was hosting a cultural TV program and was playing a first role in a musical in Montreal.
Both Paskal and Amelie left for their first gig with Moxie in Atlantic City at the Tropicana Casino in September 2005 until November 2005. The chemistry between them was really strong on and off stage and they became best friends. In November 2005, they obtained their first gig in Asia at the prestigious BATS at the Shangri-La Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia. During their 4 months contract in Seoul, South Korea at the JJ Mahoney's, Paskal decided to work on a song for Amelie. She wrote the lyrics and Paskal worked his magic around them to create "Now I'm Alive". Noticing the strong musical chemistry between them and having the same goals and same tastes for rock music, they decided to unite their strength to make a duo album. Wanting to let the doors open to different concepts and symbolisms, "Mythical Number" came up as the band name.
During their next 7 months contract in Hong Kong, they wrote many new songs and worked hard on their first album. MN even spent 3 months in Vladivostok, Russia, playing at the new and prestigious OKNO Club and became the first American band to ever play in Vladivostok (The city has been allowing tourists and even other Soviet citizens for only about 15 years!). Their next stop was at the glamourous Ritz-Carlton's Mistere in Jakarta, Indonesia, from February 2008 to May 2008.
After more than 400 shows in Asia in less than 3 years, including a show for the US army at the Kunsan Air Base in South Korea (Home of the Wolf Pack), Mythical Number is looking forward to come back home in Montreal and start touring to promote his new material in America and hopefully, Europe.
In June 23, 2009, MYTHICAL NUMBER won the Canadian Nissan Cube contest where Nissan gave away 50 Cubes to creative and original people among more than 7000 participants in Canada. After 2 months of hard work creating a page online for the contest, doing 7 Youtube episodes called MN Cube, writing a song called "My Cube" and doing many other original projects for the contest, MN won a Cube 2009 SL fully equipped! MN was also asked to do an acoustic performance at the Cube final at the Club Soda in Montreal where they performed "Listen to the Voice" and "My Cube".
