Currently 31 years old I look back on my life to this point and conclude I have had a good life. I have not achieved the goals I set forth at the end of my high school career, but they were very lofty goals. I am currently 6 years behind in attaining my goals, so if I can do it in another 4 things will be okay. I am a very results oriented kind of person, and set the bar high. The only problem with looking for high results is that failure is easier to obtain.
I graduated high school in 1995 and worked for two years in the electrical trade. I decided to study Economics at the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky instead of entering the apprenticeship program of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which I had been accepted into.
I worked my ass off to graduate college in 3 calendar years, but I wish I would have taken 4. My goal was the result and not the journey. I miss my college friends like crazy and hope to see some of them again one day. I didn't realize that my friends were slowly leaving until one day I looked up and they were mostly all gone. I only communicate with one friend from college who is like a brother to me.
After college I worked in the transportation industry for 3 years which is something I really enjoy. I drove for one year and was a feeder dispatcher for UPS for two. Working at UPS will go down as the most memorable job I will ever have. My first hour there of a morning I was responsible for the efficient departure of $50,000,000 to $100,000,000 of freight and equipment (50 to 100 trucks). I had a lot of good times there and sometimes wish I would have tried to stay and made it up the ladder, but the chances were too slim I would ever go anywhere for my liking. My three immediate bosses Tim, Jeff, and Tawn all three impacted my life greatly and their bosses Tommy and Doug have inspired me to do great things and I will always look up to them for their wisdom and greatness. I can't Leave out Joe, who fits in there somewhere, but his drive to do the job right each and every time will always remind me to pay attention to details.
I will never forget the Good Buddy drivers I got to know and like while I was there. At the top of the list will be Rusty Nut, Blue Dog, Toy, Tow (from Indy), Bananaman, Diesel Wiesel, Cannon, Oney (from Standiford Field), and many others. When dealing with hundreds of drivers in a day's time, its hard to list everyone. I will never forget Jim (who I will always look up to for his perseverance) and Chris in the Shop.
After living in Lexington, KY for 6 years I found myself ready to move and off to Wilmington, NC I went. I have been here mostly working for myself now in film restoration/video production since then. Since being here on the Azalea Coast I have learned some magic, made many good friends I hope to keep for life, and learned many good life lessons. I love the people of this area, and I can't foresee leaving anytime in the near future.
Some of my greatest friends ever I have met in the last year. I have met many great friends since being involved in Ron Paul's Campaign.
Also, one of my greatest friends I have met in the last year is a client of mine. I look up to him for his technical expertise and leadership. Most assuredly I will find myself still looking up to him many years down the road. He has helped build my confidence a lot and reminded me to look at the bright side. By no means am I in his league, but it shows how great of a friend he is to let a small fry like me into his circle.
Two of the friends I have met within the last year who will most assuredly go down as great friends through life are crazy and remind me to not take life so seriously. I have done things with them that I most likely would have never done.
In the last year, I have picked up three new members of the Leonard Burton Fan Club: Cody (a blue and gold McCaw), Charley (an African Grey Parot), and Anunnaki (a pure white Samoyed).
Life has presented itself with a difficult challenge for me over that recent past, which is making me examine who I really am. It is times like these I cherish because they show me that I am a human and not a computer which I spend way too much time in front of.
Most importantly I look forward to the future and the greatness it brings into my life as it arrives each and every day. I can't wait until tomorrow gets here as it is a new day!
I would like to thank each and every client, vendor, and friend who has gone out of their way to help my my business successful. You all are the greatest.
Teddy Roosevelt has been quoted as saying "Some men are born great, others have greatness thrust upon them" and I ask myself where do I fit in this dichotomy? I think the reporters left off the last third of his statement, which fits me to a tee, " . . . and for some others greatness has spewn upon them".
My career is heading toward product marketing. Over the last several months I have been laying the ground work to develop a marketing plan for a few products, develop the television commercials, internet presence, distribution/order fulfillment, call intake, and what not. I hope to have the first product online by 1 October.
Who I'd like to meet: Slowpoke Rodriguez, Ron Paul (personally and not just inline at an event), Scooby Doo, Weatherford J Winklebutt
