Nábac is a young Irish band which has emerged from the vibrant Galway music scene which has become so international of late. The selection of music on their debut CD “Siar Anoir (West of East)” reflects this. There are tracks stemming from the musical traditions of Denmark, Spain, Hungary and even further afield as well as from the dominant Irish tradition. There is a wonderful specific “Nábac” sound to the original material and great variety in the choice of song. Their new CD, produced by Seamie O..Dowd, “Siar Anoir” certainly adds something distinctly new to the traditional Irish music scene.
Nábac formed just over two years ago and are making themselves known for their down to earth, lively performances. The band are quickly being snapped up by the International Irish Music festival scene, having performed in Germany, Israel, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, France and will later this year take part in the Irish Summer tour in Austria. Being a well recognised act in many of Ireland 's great folk venues, the band is swiftly creating ripples in the musical scene with a sound that is intricate, varied, and soulful while staying true to the Irish traditional sound.

As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.

Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
Hey friend remember us we would like to think you because wit out you we couldn't of gotten so far, we started this account 3years ago and we never would expect to go so far wit the band

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Hello Nàbac - Hope you're all well. A singing songwriting duo called The Lost Brothers is doing a free gig at the Roisin Dubh - that hole of holes! - on the 5th of May, and are well worth going to see. They were in Portland, Oregon, for a few weeks, recording their second album, and only headed back east towards Ireland a few days ago. They are from Omagh and Navan, respectively, but are based in London. Check out "City of the Rose" on their myspace page. It's a song inspired by the ghost of a prostitute that is said to haunt the halls of the hotel where they were staying the last time they were here recording. Portland is known as the City of the Rose(s). All the best....
