   About Nabaté Isles
Born and raised in New York City, Nabaté S. Isles went on to receive his BM from the Eastman School of Music and his MA from New York University. During his high school years, Nabaté represented the fifth generation of jazz for the preview of the Louis Armstrong Archives, with trumpet greats Dr. Donald Byrd, the late “Doc” Cheatham, the late “Dizzy” Gillespie, Jimmy Owens, Jon Faddis and Wynton Marsalis. Nabaté also appeared in a Coca-Cola commercial, directed by John Singleton and produced by Roy Eaton. While attending Eastman, Nabaté was a featured soloist with the Rochester Pops Orchestra. Nabaté also participated in the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz summer program at Aspen Snowmass and its Jazz Gala at the Kennedy Center. He has performed and/or recorded with esteemed musicians Mos Def, James Newton, Charli Persip, Steve Coleman, Ravi Coltrane, Lonnie Plaxico, Mike Longo, Jay Hoggard, Oliver Lake, Christian McBride, David Gilmore, Brad Jones, and the Mingus Big Band. Recordings that he has appeared on includes the last two Mike Longo large ensemble albums, ‘Aftermath’ and ‘Oasis’, as well as a Philly Jazz tribute album released in Japan, which featured Uri Caine, Buster Williams, Grady Tate, Joe Ford and Jay Hoggard. Nabaté has performed and toured with the Jose Limon Dance Company. Nabaté also played and acted in the musical 'Ella Fitzgerald: First Lady of Song', which starred Freda Payne and was directed by Maurice Hines. His trumpet sounds are featured on the recent debut album of R&B/Pop artist, Shareefa. Nabaté has composed scores or music supervised for five short films, as well as contributing original music to Amos Poe’s upcoming film, Empire II. He composed a solo double bass composition called 'Lessons', which was premiered by world-renowned bassist James VanDemark at Louisiana State University. Also, he wrote the score for an Off-Broadway play called, “Cherry’s Patch”, written by New York State Athletic Commission Chairman, Ron Scott Stevens. Nabaté is currently an Adjunct Professor of Music Technology at Bloomfield College and trumpet instructor at Jazz @ Lincoln Center's Middle School Jazz Academy. Nabaté is producing and music supervising a documentary on the intriguing life and music of legendary jazz trumpeter, Lee Morgan. This film involves executive producer Lou DiBella, musician/actor Mos Def, director Marc Levin, and editor Sam Pollard. Since June 2006, Nabaté has been hosting and producing a weekly cable sports talk show on Manhattan Neighborhood Network called, “So Much to Talk About”. It airs on Manhattan Neighborhood Network, every Wednesday night at 9pm (Eastern Time), as well as online on www.mnn.org (click the 57/84 link). Check out: www.youtube.com/nsiworld
