Nabi

BIOGRAPHY

Nabi was practically born singing. Writing, however, came a little later. She started by penning multiple tunes about weather patterns, wildlife, and angels. She's since adopted a few grown-up topics; including love, heartbreak, and desperation. Her songs embrace vulnerability, bridging the gaps between those listening. Her lyrics paint an emotion-driven view of humanity, our successes, our downfalls, and our mutual experience. Nabi was born in Guelph, Ontario, and raised with an emphasis on freedom and truth-seeking. She's always had a passion to perform, and at the age of eight, with a stomach full of butterflies, she first shared an original piece in a fancy hotel lobby in South Africa. At thirteen, she was drawn to a weekly local open stage, and continued to build confidence on public ground. In her high school years, Nabi took part in a musical, written and directed by folk legend James Gordon, a number of school plays, and a rock band with some pals (Ekho). Her first album (Tall Grass, 2006) was recorded in the upstairs room of her home, within a three-day period by a good friend and mentor, Ken Brown. Nabi graduated high school at seventeen and traveled to Australia on a spiritual quest. After much growth, she came home to Ontario and delved straight back into music. At a folk conference in London, Ontario, Nabi met Danny Michel and they became friends. Her latest album, ‘Hibernation’ (2010) was recorded with Danny in his farmhouse studio. When Nabi isn't playing shows or writing songs, she creates feather jewelry, knits, and drinks tea with her friends and family. She's also involved with a fresh new band called Medicine Hat (www.myspace.com/musicbymedicinehat).
