Inceptualized May of 2005, Naborí is the brain child of its founding members Wichy Ayala, Robert Figueroa and Tony Ayala. Frustrated with the current musical landscape in Milwaukee, WI - in where bands respective repertoires consist exclusively of cover music the three decided to launch a project that would reignite the creative musical process and dedicate its vision to the execution of original material. Moreover, the vision was set in part to exploit the musical strength of Milwaukee. As such, all songs performed by Naborí are composed and arranged by local musicians or partnerships between Milwaukee and Chicago talent.
Naborís music is deeply rooted in the genre of traditional salsa music referred to by many as Salsa Brava. This type of salsa holds true to form, in where the musical arrangements are structured with the dancer in mind. The songs are structured with aggressive percussion, upbeat tempos and vibrant brass and chord progressions as standards, which electrifies any dancer, in any venue. Naborí's subject matter is also traditional, in the sense that it predominantly deals with issues outside of the typical, many times over utilized, romantic topics. Some of Naborís more visited topics are those centering on everyday Puerto Rican life, placed against a backdrop of aggressive musical arrangements and compositions.
Milwaukee Magazine crowns Nabori as "Milwaukee's Best Salsa Band" as part of the publication's "Best of 2006" issue.
In 2007 Nabori won a WAMI Award for Best World Beat Band
Comprised of twelve musicians, boasting some of the most impressive and expansive resumes in the city, Naborí is in deed Milwaukees premier salsa orchestra. Its mission is simple; to play the best original salsa in the city. So far, with only a few notable performances, Naborí is proving to transcend city limits and establish itself as the regions premier salsa orchestra.
