Influences
Flying down a grassy slope on a flattened cardboard box, dancing in the kitchen to Dan Zanes and Father Goose, eating fresh banana pikelets hot from the pan, watching re-runs of 'The Good Life' with my husband in our pyjamas, singing loudly around a campfire with my friends, building cubby houses with my children out of old blankets, sliding down the hallway in my bedsocks and eating mangoes in the creek.

"When the world feels like it’s spinning too fast and the bad news becomes a burden, Nadia’s homespun happiness is like a warm, generous hug. She helps us remember the good in the world and in our neighbourhoods, homes and hearts.”
After my son, Asher, was born, I remember sitting in his little room rocking him in my arms and singing song after song. I was excited by the opportunity to bring music into my little one's life, nurturing him with beautiful melodies and knowing full well that a child's favourite sound is that of his mothers voice - regardless of whether she believes she is a good singer!
The songs from my album 'Homespun Happiness' have been born from the moments I spend with my children, Mia 2 and Asher 5. They find the joy in every new thing: fishing in the sunshine, train rides, trips to the park, rainy days in a nest of blankets and dancing in the kitchen.
They make it easy for a songwriter like me to feel inspired.
Often, after dinner, we sit in the lounge and sing and play music.
Mia tells me which guitar I should play (it's always the same one) and we begin. There is a lot of loud singing, outrageous dance moves and plenty of laughter. These are my favourite times; all of us connecting in a symphonic celebration of simply being together.
Making music for families is a natural extension of my own musical background. For years I ran my own music studio, teaching babies through to 7 year olds. I advertised classes for these age groups, but the children didn't bring themselves. The parents, grandparents and other significant elders were also involved in the fun. It is a beautiful way for a child to experience the joy of music, giggling with their Grandpa as they both bounce around the room like bunnies! I love to write songs that reflect and enhance that shared space between grown-ups and kids. Songs that everyone in the family can relate to and share in the delight of.
I spent five years singing in the Brisbane band 'Spot the Dog'. We recorded two albums, received national airplay on ABC radio and performed at music festivals around Australia. It was an incredible journey and a great apprenticeship for a young musician. My association with the band and my subsequent solo music career led me into my work as a broadcaster with ABC Local Radio. I currently host a four hour music program on ABC Coast FM and I love it!
I have just returned from a weekend music festival camping with my family. We all sat watching the 'Bluegrass Boys' perform one afternoon, singing along at all the appropriate singing-a-long moments. My son turned to me and said "I really love this music Mama", I said "So do I". We smiled at each other...and then kept singing.
