WHO IS NAHJAI SOUL????
1. If people don't know about you, they should, your the second coming of Jill Scott. What's funny is I interviewed the second coming to Jill on the poetry side, now I have the second coming of Jill on the singing side, how do those comparisons make you feel?
It’s funny you should ask that. I hear that a lot even from a label representative who emailed me and said “Nice, Sounds like a Jill Scott but with your own style”. I can appreciate that and I find it flattering seeing as how she is a great artist as well as a leader in what she does. However, I am Nahjai Soul and different as God makes each of us with our own gifts and talents. I have listened to Jill Scott as well as Phyliss Hyman, Nina Simone, Sara Vaughn, Rachelle Farrell, Karen Clark and draw my inspiration from everyone as a whole yet it’s what he has put inside of me that makes Nahjai Soul her own.
2. Nah-Jai is your name, is there anything behind the meaning?
Not that I know of...I hope it doesn’t mean anything bad..lol.No really it was created from a combination of the first two letters in my first and middle name.
3. What do you enjoy he most, recording or performing and why?
I enjoy them both just the same. I enjoy creating the music. I also enjoy sharing the music and being able to touch someone with a song or melody.
4. You being in Atlanta, how is the music community there and if you could change anything, what would it be?
The music community in Atlanta is like Traffic in New York & California Congested. There is a lot of talent here and a lot of people coming from other places just because of the music scene here. When that happens of course you get a vast amount of situations that may not be what they say they are and you just have to weed them out.
If I could change anything I would actually change the music industry as a whole which would probably be like trying to achieve world peace. However I would sit down and talk to the bigwigs that control all the labels & sub labels to make sure that independent musicians share the limelight.
People don’t realize budgets and music success sometimes go hand in hand. Although being independent and having more control over what you create is beautiful. I don’t knock the labels and if the right situation came along I would entertain being a part of a label. I JUST WISH REAL MUSIC, POSITIVITY & THE TRUTH WAS IN MORE DEMAND.
5. I have been listening to your music on MySpace for years and I'm a huge supporter. Where does your inspiration come from?
My inspiration comes from within. It comes from my happiness, my disappointments and sadness. If a door seems closed and hen another opens then that lets me know I am getting closer to my dream.
6. Who are you listening to right now? Mostly older music, listening to my own and critiquing the album and also I am listening to Alum 88 a lot which is a local station here in Atlanta on 88.5 that places some of the most phenomenal music..Real music…
7. How can the people contact you? Go to my website at www.nahjaisoul.com , or email me at nahjai_online@yahoo.com or hit me up on myspace at www.myspace.com/nahjai : MUSIC AVAILABLE AT WWW.ITUNES.COM!!

The Abyssinian Rose… for so long it had only been talked about in mysticism- spoken across the lips of prophets and griots. Never, even, seen by the eyes of man. The flower, if that is in fact what it should be called, has been romanticized for the uniqueness of its bloom. The way that it blossoms every 30 days… never taking the same shape… dressed in a myriad of colors… shrouded in its own individual glow- almost as if it were a different plant all together. The mystics speak of its healing power and its ability to serve as a natural conduit for energy and positive ideas. They also believe that only a certain type of garden can nourish such a plant and only the purest of gardeners can till the soil. In fact, there is only one place, currently, that the Abyssinian Rose can even be found…
Housed in the Sanctuary Literary Café is the Acoustic Garden. And on Friday, May 25th, you are all invited to watch as this flower blossoms once again. If you have ever been present to watch its full boom essence, then you understand why such an amazing occurrence is beyond the description of words. I mean- how do you describe a flower that blooms as its gardeners, seemingly, summon it through the picks of guitar strings, accompanied by the sounds of urban violins and some of the most amazing notes ever to escape from one's vocal chords. To call it historical is an understatement…
Queen Sheba will be filming her video "Natural" w/Kelly Love Jones
We will be wearing all white for the shoot and the Acoustic Garden will start promptly at 10:00 p.m. To be in the video we ask that you come early (6:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. time frame) so we can get the neccessary footage for the video.
