Bela Bartok, Igor Stravinsky, Yoko Shimmomura, Thomas Newman, John Adams and Ludwig von Beethoven are the main influences. I'd be lying if I also didn't credit, Nobuo Uematsu, Tenpei Sato, John Williams, Aaron Copland (just a little), Leonard Bernstein, Michael Colgrass, Jennifer Higdon, Steve Reich, and the drama of hard rock bands from the 1970's and 1980's.
Sounds Like
I have unhealthy obsessions with Bela Bartok and Yoko Shimmomura, so I'm guessing I sound a lot like them.
I'm a musician living in Los Angeles, a composer, copyist, orchestrator, and clarinetist. I suppose I will throw in educator as I enjoy teaching as well. I'm interested in finding people to collaborate with on any music/artsy related project or find old friends with whom I've lost touch (and keep in touch with new friends and colleagues). The internet is great for things like that :)
I got my BM in music theory from the University of New Hampshire (the first BM in theory in about 30 years I've been told. Most get just a BA) and an MA in music composition from the University of Minnesota. I'm enrolled in the film scoring program at UCLA and have worked with a few composers in town. I also do freelance work.
I moved to Los Angeles in March of 2006 when my fiancee Dave got transferred out here, and I realized it was a sign: I was destined to come here (yeah it's cheesy. I know). I'm living the starving artist life and striving to become the consummate musician. Oh and in case anyone asks, we're getting married in October 2008, on the day of our nine year anniversary.
My dream is to be like Kermit the Frog. He collaborates with people to sing dance and entertain, make people happy. That's really what I want to do at the heart of it. Whether that is to write music for video games, theater music, TV, radio, podcasts, concert band, that doesn't really matter. I just want to make people happy through my art. If I had a choice, I would like music and/or video games to be part of that. I come from the concert music world and have written everything from band music to cheesy polka arrangements. I play clarinet and their auxiliaries and love to play! I'm available for other composers and such who is looking for someone that will truly understand their music. After all I'm a composer too!
I'm very opinionated, and believe strongly in the things that mean a lot to me. As the orchestra keeps losing patrons more and more each year I want to help get younger audiences excited about classical music again. I also want to help parents develop awareness about the video game industry. While there are some bad apples, most video games can inspire creativity and entertainment for people of all ages and shouldn't be looked upon as terrible things only 25 year old nerds who live in their parents basement play. This is another reason why I want to be involved in the video game industry. If you know me, you probably also know of many other things I like to rant about, but I won't bore you here.
That's about it for me. I'm hoping to get back in touch with old friends and share my music with anyone interested in hearing it. Enjoy :)
HOLY CRAP LADY!!! I finally got to spend more time on your page and you are smoking with talent! My most favorite is Gothic Theme and then the close runner up is Techy Action ^.^ I hope you continue to produce more b/c I can't wait to hear 'em. Pls keep me posted.

Hope All Goes Well For You And Your Fiancee. Cheers For The Wedding Couple!
Hey Kerry, You like Rydia from FFIV right? I have Rydia's theme in my playlist(the blue one). It's not an ingame theme though. It sounds more Celtic-like, but it's pretty cool.

Hey Kerry, thanks for the add! I hope you are enjoying LA, people are definitely coming out to the west coast in droves. The music sounds great, good luck pursuing your dream!
I have a high school friend who is moving out to LA in the fall to start going to the UCLA Film program doing his master's in film studies, I believe. The two of you should work together!
Kerry is A Fantastic Musician. Her music can be wonderful; complicated and accessible. She is also a fine performer on the clarinet. Don't get me wrong, she's goofy. She knows her homestarrunner. Let me put it this way:
Kerry, I dig you, yo!
