Take four guys with great musical skills and talent, combine it with pure rock'n'roll, mix all that with much energy – and you get Naked. The band from Helsinki was founded by four guys around twenty, a street rockband which takes its influences from the 80s and even many already long experienced rockers are astonished when they see them playing. Either their musical style, which they themselve declared as cock rock, and also their visual look reminds one much of a typical American 70’s rock band. Here should be mentioned that actually one of their big idols and also inspiration is the legendary band KISS.
They started by playing gigs in some small venues and took then part at the new talents’ show “Ääni ja Vimma” in April 2001 and made it to the finals.
One year after in June 2002 they released their debut single “Hard To Get” – a two track MCD produced by Jukka Puurula and Antti Lehtinen [Don Huonot]. Looking back now, considering their recent musical style, those songs [“Hard To Get” and “Tonight”] sounded much more pop-like.
Their style changed then when their former drummer left the band and the older brother of the singer took the drum parts over. The sound got heavier and they got more and more satisfied with their work. This resulted in the next release of the MCD “Look At Me” in October 2003. The title track of this single has a very catchy melody and verse, along with much power and speed. The second track “K.H.S.L.” [Kiss Me, Hold Me, Squeeze Me, Love Me] is a lowtempo song refined with a beautiful cello played by Thomas Nuñez.
In January 2004 the band started recording their debut album “This One Goes To Eleven” which was produced by Dan Weeks and Juha Jäntti. This album was recorded pretty fast in just eleven days and got released on March, 31st, followed by a record release gig at Semifinal in Helsinki the next day.
he next important step for the band was their first gig at Finland’s oldest and most famous rock club “Tavastia” as support act of the Swedish band Eskobar. As this gig was presented by X3M [a radio channel of Yle] it had been broadcasted on the radio either.
A week before this event Naked had filmed their first music video to the song “Sister” of their debut album. This video had been directed by the well known artist and director Stefan Lindfors who had also made HIM’s “Funeral Of Hearts”. The video has a very artistic touch as over the whole scene the image of ice cubes swimming in water had been projected. This video was aired for the first time on Finnish tv by Nelonen on June, 12th.
Some more gigs followed, also at some festivals, and they changed to a new booking agency – Welldone [Finland's biggest booking agency for national and international events] – for taking care of their gigs. The first gig with this new agency took place then as support of The 69 Eyes at Tammerfest in July 2004.
During all this time after the release of their debut album quite a lot of people were able to see them and so they gained plenty of new fans. Their live shows are always packed with much power and energy which is very infectuous to the whole audience. This can best be seen when they start playing the song “Let’s Go” which has a very catchy chorus and everybody is asked to sing along with it. The response from the audience is usually very positive and even the guys are once and again astonished at this point. This band really has a lot of fun being able to present their music to the people which can be seen just by looking into their faces.
During October/November 2004 another line up change took place and a new bass player - Pecco - was introduced, followed by his first gig with Naked on December 2004 in Tampere.
At the very same gig the band proudly presented already a new song. The next plans are to record a new single which is supposed to be released next year.
