Hello and thank you for spending some of your time with naked j.
naked j emerged out of a late notice email for a last second gig. Alex of Buffalo Alice needed a last second acoustic opening act because of a late cancellation, so Aaron of Safety Meeting gave me a call and put me in touch with Alex. It was the first acoustic gig I had played in fifteen years. I found myself enjoying the setting much more than I imagined and I was received more enthusiastically than I could have expected. That led me to explore the “unplugged”, “acoustic”, stripped down, or “naked” side of my songs.
I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember and only a very small number of these songs have ever been heard - mostly around campfires or through the rock bands that I’ve played in over the years like [nothingman], facemaker, the soiled, the free press, etard, middle-aged assholes, straight-to-video, shure phitt and others.
My goal is to post a new song every week for one year. These songs will all be newly recorded “naked” versions of my songs. Some will be stripped down versions of prior rockers, some will be juiced up versions of acoustic snoozers and others will be as they always were.
No subject matter will be taboo:
death, suicide, drinking, divorce, politics, drugs, drinking, happy stuff (no too much of that), abuse, sports, lying, cheating, sex, drinking… funny songs, sad songs (because they say so much), waltzes, punk songs, ballads (not really). Pretty much anything goes; short songs, long songs, medium songs, instrumentals…no spoken word as of yet, but you never know.
I must warn that some of these songs are done in poor taste with offensive material and are full of explicit language. I will not censor myself, but out of respect for the folks who choose to not hear these types of things any song title starting with “EXPLICIT” should be considered offensive subject matter and/or full of dirty words. I don’t expect there will be a lot of this, but from time to time I write a nasty little song. I just couldn’t leave “the prick boyfriend song” off the list and that song is just… wrong, but it makes me laugh.
you know, youre way higher in my top friends list than i am on yours. and as high as i usually am, i think i should be high on your list also. or at least first in your heart.
