It was a long, fun ride, but Naked Omaha has packed it in--well at least under the name Naked Omaha. Steve cut out in late July '08 to find the garage/punk band of his dreams, and, a little less than a month later, he joined Mondo Topless to make a racket with those boys. Bob, Dan and Scott are still rolling down the roots/Americana highway under the name Hidden River Construction. You know that's gonna rock. But this page'll stay up as a tribute to a hell of a band and a hell of a time.
"But Naked Omaha, from Philadelphia, were what we'd hoped for: three-part yodels, extraneous power chords, a crew-cut guitarist who gibbered between songs, and two studious bearded guys weeping, 'Man, I feel like shit.' "
-- Eric Weisbard, Village Voice.
Naked Omaha was an "Americana" band, but the hard-rocking kind. More Uncle Tupelo than Richard Buckner, more Slobberbone than Jayhawks, more, um, MC5 than, er, Lucinda Williams. More ass-kicking than mellow. You get the idea.
They played live for years in the Philadelphia area, at bars like the North Star, the Fire (aka the Philly Bar & Grille), the Trocadero and the Bishop's Collar. Every now and then, they got out of town and did a few shows in places like New Hampshire, Michigan and Pittsburgh. But they were mostly in and around Philly and proud of it.
Naked Omaha has a couple of albums--Belt from 2000, and The Blue Route from 2005. Belt never found a label and The Blue Route was on Rustic Digital until the harsh economics of The Biz took those fine folks down. So, if you want some Naked Omaha music, the place to be is here on MySpace, where the band is letting you download what they can. So enjoy it.
In the meantime, go check out Hidden River Construction and Mondo Topless (you can find 'em both listed in our "Top Friends"), and we'll see you around.

My Mom is in town that night, and she keeps threatening to "help with the baby." I am going to force her to "babysit," even though there won't be much to do, since the kid will hopefully be konked out...Viva Los Omaha!
Hey Erica, May 9th at The Fire is our next show (see above). We have a bunch of new originals and covers. Yes, after just a few brief waterboarding sessions, Dan now enthusiastically plays covers too. I'm thinkin' it may all be a little loud for the Man Named Trucker, though....
I can't wait to get the CD done and do some shows where I can hopefully meet some of you.
I wish I had a time machine and could blast forward and start doing shows tomorrow.
PS. TWO GUITAR PLAYERS WANTED...
The new material we are working on will have a guitarmony sound and will require three players. We are looking for two players who live in the Detroit Metro area.
What we are looking for:
1. Age 18 to 27 2. Must be a great player. 3. Studio and Live experience a plus. 4. Style of music is pop/rock/alternative/punk 5. Style is a cross between 30 Seconds To Mars, Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Muse, Garbage, and The Used with strong commercial appeal. 6. Lead or Backing vocal capabilities a plus. 7. Ability to write guitar parts for existing melody lines. 8. Must have time to make a commitment and be available for studio and live shows. Currently rehearsals are scheduled on Sunday between 1:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M. 9. Will require learning a certain amount of filler cover material. 10. If you have drug or alcohol related issues this probably wouldn't work for you.
A label showcase is scheduled for late February - so time is of the essence.
If you or someone you know is what we are looking for. Please let me know so we can set up a studio audition.
Hey, um...any suggestions for getting Vanstone's baby out of my uterus? Songs I should listen to? Spicy foods? I think I've listened to your new songs like 50 million times because I've heard that Dan's voice births babies. Seriously, it's embarrassing to be carrying the bass player's child for this long...
Fancy-A-Spin? That's right, it's our new record. There's 4 brand new songs on our page. If you guys come over here and want give them a try, leave a comment or just say hello... We'll love it. Oh, and if you like it... tell a friend to stop by. He's welcome too. Cheers, GR
I have heard legends about this very same bagel sandwich of which you speak. But besides carrying old food around, Bob serves a purpose. After all, who's gonna tell you when you're drunk? That's right. It's my Bobby.
