NALIP's mission is to promote the advancement, development and funding of Latino/Latina film and media arts in all genres. Our primary goal is to engender Latino images within the media environment.

About me: For ten years, the only annual gathering of the national Latino media field has been the NALIP Conference. The event is organized as a professional education and networking opportunity. Speakers bring analyses of Latinos in the film, documentary and television worlds while projecting trends of relevance to us all. Awards celebrate past triumphs and recognize rising talents. Artists hold intimate conversations about their craft. Workshops teach skills for emerging and mid-career makers. Pitch and screening events showcase talent. Meeting series like the concurrent Latino Media Market make matches between executives, funders and projects.
NALIP 10: A DECADE OF INFLUENCE will recognize the landmark status of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, our Conference and our member makers. So much has changed since NALIP first convened concerned artists and activists in San Francisco in 1999.
So much progress can be recognized, while so much more is left to do. HBO, Time Warner and the National Latino Media Council present this year’s Conference, by NALIP Board members Frances Negron-Muntaner and David Ortiz and writer/producer Ligiah Villalobos. Together they have programmed a dynamic weekend of plenaries and conversations, workshops and networking events plus a sneak preview screening all at The Island Hotel in Newport Beach, April 17 – 19.
A little taste of our most recent conference in Newport Beach, CA.
Who I'd like to meet: NALIP has members in 27 states, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and Spain. NALIP members work as writers, producers, directors and performers, executives, agents and all key crew positions, publicity and casting, composing and production services.
Members are students, educators and advocates. Some are emerging and young professionals; many are mid-career or senior professionals. NALIP supports English-language Latino media, but over half of our members work sometimes or always in Spanish. Our membership is evenly divided between men and women, most are college educated and many are 20-35 years old. Members work in documentaries and public television, broadcast and network television, independent and Hollywood features, plus new media, mobile media and community-based media projects.
Our membership is as broad as the Latino community: veteran feature film and documentary producers, emerging and mid-career professionals, students & scholars, experimental artists, media activists, performers and curators of museums & festivals.

Hey guys - thanksfor the add of "Fallen Hero", a story that examines the relationship between Daniel, a father in the throws of a divorce and his seven year old son, Jerry, in the aftermath of a school parking lot altercation in which Jerry witnesses his father brutally beaten by another man (emasculated, if you will) in front of his classmates. The story deals with the disillusionment of the Jerry’s hero worship for his father and how he tragically deals with it when his classmates tease him. Fallen Hero also examines the delicate psychology involved in pre-adolescent males as it relates to their growing awareness of what it means to be a man.
