National Alliance on Mental Illness, San Diego's Blurbs
About me:
NAMI is the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to improving the lives of persons living with serious mental illness and their families.
Since 1979, NAMI has become the nation’s voice on mental illness, a nationwide organization with affiliates in every state and in more than 1,100 local communities across the country.
The San Diego NAMI affiliate began in the early 1970s as a group called "Parents of Adult Schizophrenics". These parents met around their kitchen tables to give each other support in this era which parents were thought to be the cause of their children's mental illness.
In 1978, the chapter incorporated as the San Diego Alliance for the Mentally Ill. That same year, the California Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI California) was also incorporated while the following year the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI) was incorporated. In 2005, the acronym meaning was changed to: National Alliance on Mental Illness.
NAMI is dedicated to providing education, support services and advocacy to improve the quality of life of everyone affected by mental illnesses.
NAMI San Diego's Help Line provides support and referral information for family members, consumers, and those affected by mental illness. (619) 543-1434 or 1-800-523-5933.
Jung called it "synchronicity"--random events that occur together in a way that defies rational explanation.
You think of a friend you haven't seen in a while, and she phones you. Or, contemplating a business deal, you see a sign that reads "Beware of thin ice," and you know to steer clear. If you look more closely at coincidences, you will find guidance in times of confusion or at key moments in decision-making. We are used to looking for symbols in dreams, but coincidences in our waking lives can be also be read as symbols of where the universe is leading us.
Saturday was GREAT. I had a great time and am glad I flew out here from Georgia. I couldn't believe the turn out. And I got to meet Genie Kavit (hope I spelled that right). Was so great to see so many people and the Gay Men's Chorus was great. And it was really nice weather. Can't wait for next year. Was great to finally meet you too.
I AM ACTUALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO GETING ON THE PLANE BELIEVE IT OR NOT. BECAUSE I CAN'T WAIT BE IN SAN DIEGO. AND TO BE AT THE WALK. EVEN IF I CAN'T DO THE ACTUAL WALK.
LESS THAN A MONTH TO GO THEN, SAN DIEGO HERE I COME. I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO WALK MUCH DURING THE NAMI WALK BUT I WILL STILL BE THERE WITH BELLS ON. BLESSED BE.
Thanks for the add! Sorry about taking so long to add you. I've been on the road playing shows, and I'm just now getting a chance to check out your page! How'd you come across my page? (just curious : ) Anyway, I'm glad you did! Now that we're friends, don't be a stranger!
