On Wednesday May 14 we return to The Deaf Institute for an evening of lyrical, alternative and contemporary folk music and visual ambiance, in a modern modern setting, with pews, below a glass roof...........with Anna Kashfi, Dan Haywood's New Hawks and At Swim Two Birds who will feature a video projection of 'The London Nobody Knows'.

DONE 2 copy

"The London Nobody Knows, a 1967 documentary stroll around the city with James Mason. No horseguards, no palaces, but Islington's Chapel Market, pie shops, and Spitalfields tenements. Carnaby chicks and chaps, the 1967 we have been led to remember, are shockingly juxtaposed with feral meths drinkers, filthy shoeless kids, squalid Victoriana. Camden Town still resembles the world of Walter Sickert. There is romance and adventure, but mostly there is malnourishment. London looks like a shithole".

Solid Earth and what? the folk present: beats, roots and leaves, an eight hour charity session of musical goodness at Manchester’s best pub in nearly the countryside: Jackson’s Boat in Sale Water Park. All proceeds to MSF in Darfur.

Solid_BRL_back_print

It’s May, the perfect month for a doo in a marquee surrounded by trees. If it rains, don’t fret, we’ll be inside instead. Jackson’s Boat will be serving proper ales and food so make an evening of it, bring some warm clothes now.

Nancy Elizabeth!
Just stopping by to let you know we've put some new tunes up since you last said hi, so come and let us know what you think! Also, there's going to be a brilliant night on at the Purple Turtle in Camden this Saturday (26th April). So if you happen to be in London, or you know anyone who wants a fantastic night out - We'll be supporting the fantastic Lancashire Hotpots who are heading down for a rare trip south - they're like nothing you've ever heard this side of watford. Check them out at myspace. com/thelancashirehotpots, don't forget your phone wallet keys and come and have a good chuckle while you dance!

Plus for our set we've got some exciting guests playing with us including Clem on funky guitar solos, Olly on trombone and Chlo on Cello. It's the biggest incarnatioon yet!

Go to glasswerk. co. uk/tickets to book your ticket now as it looks likely to sell out.

Miss Cherry Ripe Dances in MANCHESTER!

...for one night only!

An evening of all things Dr Butlers Hatstand Medicine Band in appreciation and celebration of the release of their 1st album 'Music for Parlours & Promenades' @ the Deaf Institute, Grosvenor St, Manchester.

Featuring guests such as Aiden Smith, Tullis Rennie & Mush (The Bottom Feeders) and Nick Walters (The Black Velvet Band), the chaps will perform tracks from the album and others in their regular guise as a trio, sometimes as a quartet and even as a sextext with the aforementioned melodists, minstrils and nightingales to present to you a toe tapping treasure that'll flush the cockles of hearts young and old, in any season.

Albums on sale on the night at a discounted price, FREE ENTRY/LATE BAR and special guest appearances from the likes of tap dancing extravaganza Miss Cherry Ripe who will be swooning us with her moves and dashes.
