The city of CALI, Colombia, is known for her "caleñas", ie, her women.
They are said to be among the most beautiful in the world. Anyone who has seen Nancy MURILLO for the first time will understand this. She's herself a "sum-up" of this city: vibrant, warm, beautiful, full of energy and fed of the many influences that form the cultural richness of Latin America.

With her mastery of drama from the Del Valle University, she very quickly discovered what constitutes the essence of this profession: the pleasure of being on stage, communion with the public.
Very naturally, she made her first steps on stage with the Troupe TECEPAL from Cali. Then she toured throughout Colombia with the Teatro Experimental of Cali. She is fascinated, galvanized by the show. But the music attracts her more and more and salsa will triumph from her love of theater.

Then she joined La Morada, Cali's Dance School, eager to learn everything: singing, contemporary dance and ballet, but also salsa and folk dancing. All those hours of dance rehearsals will carve her a body of goddess and forge her a strong professional mental . She chose her path. A future star is born.
Her first group, LA GAITA, puts her on track to success. She very quickly sang for the Grupo BAHIA, a true institution in the region. She then goes to Bogota, the capital, to accompany AZUL AMAZONAS (the fetish of youth Colombian time).

While her path seemed all mapped out, love made her cross the Atlantic to Bordeaux in France. But passion for music did not abandon and she incorporated the band MELTING POT a few months after her arrival. Her desire to perform on stage became stronger and stronger. She decided to leave Bordeaux for Paris to Paris to try her luck. She then sang with the CALENTURA, then with AZUQUITA y su Melao.

But an important step of her carreer was the meeting of the SOMBRES HEROS, a group of young Parisian musicians who interpret the traditional music of her country, Cumbia. She became the singer of the band. The complicity which outcame of this meeting is reflected in their compositions to which Nancy brings a specific sparkle and sincerity.
After "Tia Yova", an album "caliente" to dance on the rhythms of Colombian cumbia and salsa, Nancy Murillo has just released "Mujer Coraje". This new album, recorded by her new band Pazifico, modernizes the Afro-Colombian musical traditions with jazz and funk..

CALI, en Colombie, est réputée pour ses « caleñas », c’est-à-dire, ses femmes. On a coutume de dire qu’elles sont parmi les plus belles du monde. Quiconque verra Nancy MURILLO pour la première fois le comprendra aisément. Elle résume à elle seule cette ville : vivante, chaude, belle, pleine d’énergie et nourrie des multiples influences qui forment la richesse culturelle de l’Amérique latine.

Avec sa maîtrise d’art dramatique qu’elle obtient à l’Université Del Valle, elle découvre très vite ce qui constitue l’essence même de ce métier : le plaisir d’être sur scène, la communion avec le public. Tout naturellement, elle fait ses premiers pas sur les planches avec la Troupe TECEPAL de Cali. Puis elle sillonne toute la Colombie lors d’une tournée avec le Théâtre Expérimental de Cali. Le spectacle la fascine, la galvanise. Mais, la musique l’attire de plus en plus et la salsa va avoir raison de son amour pour le théâtre.

Elle intègre alors LA MORADA, l’École de Danse de Cali, avide de tout apprendre: le chant, la danse contemporaine et le ballet, mais aussi la salsa et la danse folklorique. Toutes ces heures de danse, de répétition vont lui sculpter un corps de déesse et lui forger un mental de grande professionnelle. Elle a choisi sa voie. Une future étoile est née.

Son premier groupe, LA GAITA, la met sur les rails du succès. Tout s’enchaîne ensuite, très vite, elle chante pour le Grupo BAHIA, une véritable institution dans la région. Puis part à BOGOTA, la capitale, pour accompagner AZUL AMAZONAS (le groupe fétiche de la jeunesse colombienne d’alors). Alors que sa voie semblait toute tracée, l’Amour la pousse à traverser l’Atlantique pour rejoindre à Bordeaux l’élu de son coeur. La passion de la musique ne l’abandonne pas pour autant : elle intègre quelques mois après son arrivée le Groupe MELTING POT. Son désir de se produire sur scène devenant de plus en plus grand, elle décide de monter à Paris tenter sa chance. Elle chante alors avec la CALENTURA, puis avec AZUQUITA y su Melao.

Une rencontre la marque tout particulièrement : LES SOMBRES HÉROS, un groupe de jeunes musiciens parisiens qui interprètent la musique traditionnelle de son pays, la Cumbia. Son sang ne fait qu’un tour, et c’est ainsi qu’elle en devient la chanteuse. La complicité issue de cette rencontre transparaît dans leurs compositions auxquelles elle apporte un éclat et une sincérité toute particulière.

Après "Tia Yova", un premier album solo « à danser » sur les rythmes de la cumbia colombienne et de la salsa, Nancy Murillo nous revient avec sa nouvelle formation "Pazifico" et l'album "Mujer Coraje" où elle revisite et modernise les rythmes traditionnels afro-colombiens des côtes Atlantique et Pacifique en les mêlant au jazz et au funk.
