"Russian born Nancy Newlis has a deep rich voice much like Nina Simone and she delivers her songs in a style that at times is jazzy but then 2 seconds later may rock out."
- Andrea, Mossip
"Dreamers." It's an ebullient, engaging offering that suggests whimsy and reality can make a tidy meld when imbued with passion and purpose."
- Lee Zimmerman, Miami New Times
"I guess, the perfect way to describe Nancy's music is: Human. She sings with passion and understanding of her craft and is not afraid to take risks."

Nancy Newlis is a singer/songwriter hailing from Moscow, Russia. Her musical career got started by studying theory and composition under Irina Vladimirovna, who was taught by the extraordinary Russian composer Dmitri Shostakovich.
At the age of 16, she landed a full scholarship to study jazz at University of Miami. After adjusting to the weather in the Sunshine State, Nancy led several bands, and performed in Moscow and Miami. Her first break came in 2006 when she was featured as a solo artist on the EMI Christmas-themed compilation “Universidad Navideña”.
With cultural change and transition as her inspiration, Nancy began writing her first rock album, “Moments”. Recorded under the direction of Alexander Kuzmichev, bass player of the famous Russian rock band Voskresenie, the album became a success and featured such hits as “Memories” and “Chances”. In the words of Beeb Ashcroft, indie-music.com, “this album vaguely reminds me of Evanescence without the Goth overtones…captivating from beginning to end”.
Her second break came in 2007 when she was selected as a guest performer on “Fabrika Zvzed”, a musical competition aired weekly on National Russian TV.
In the summer of 2009, Nancy completed work on her second album, ”Dreamers”, inspired greatly by her move to New York City. It is unmistakably rock but introduces something of a pop vibe, particularly on the title track. It has been met with highly positive acclaim, earning recognition for its deep, rich vocals and intelligent lyrics. According to the Miami New Times, “It's an ebullient, engaging offering that suggests whimsy and reality can make a tidy meld when imbued with passion and purpose”. The Times Ledger recently had a listen and reported “Newlis sings all six songs with an intensity that is enhanced by her distinctive voice, which has a haunting, rich, textured depth reminiscent of Nina
Simone”.
Today, Nancy is living in New York City, continuing to write and perform.
