About me:
I was elected in November of 1999 by the residents of Council District Four to serve a four-year term on the Salt Lake City Council, and re-elected for a second four-year term in November of 2003.
I came to Utah in 1978 from a small town in Northern California to attend the University of Utah and to work at the University of Utah Medical Center as a respiratory therapist.
I have been very committed to her community and active in local neighborhood-focused organizations. Over the past 18 years I served on the East Central Community Council in several positions including chair, vice chair, secretary, treasurer, and neighborhood representative. I was a member of the Community Development Advisory Committee for a total of seven years, serving as chair for two terms and then as vice chair. In 1995, I was active in the Zoning Rewrite for Salt Lake City and a variety of master plans in her area. I have also been involved in the historical South Temple Street redesign, Billboard Ordinance Committee. In 1993, Salt Lake City honored me with the Good Neighbor Award.
In 2000, I was elected to serve as Vice Chair of the Redevelopment Agency Board. In February, 2001, I was elected to serve as the Chair of the Redevelopment Agency Board. In 2004, I served again as the Redevelopment Agency Board Vice Chair, and in January of 2005, I was elected to serve as Salt Lake City Council Vice Chair.
Me and my husband were the owners of Saltair Bed and Breakfast and Anderson Commons Reception Center. We also owned and managed five historically significant buildings. As such, I have a commitment and love for the preservation of historical homes. As a small business owner, I have twice been elected president of the Bed and Breakfast Inns of Utah, as well as vice-chair and served on the executive board for five terms. I am presently teaching classes at the University of Utah, Department of Continuing Education for those interested in owning and operating a bed and breakfast.
I have been married to her wonderful husband and friend, Jan, for 20 years.
District Four encompasses the Central City, East Central, and People's Freeway neighborhoods. The district includes most of downtown, East High School and Central City.
