They give people an opportunity to share themselves, artistically and politically with other folks in their communities. They give artists a venue to try new material and rework the old in front of an audience. They provide a venue for folks to come see some music and poetry, theater, comedy, demonstration for a pretty low price if not free. And on a more personal note, they financially have helped me maintain a bit of a living. I'm a very good host. I'll do my best to make everyone feel comfortable and to keep things moving in a manner that remains at least, mostly entertaining.
