Nayyirah Shah a.k.a “Nani” born and raised in Harlem on Jan 2, 1983. I have had a love affair with music from the start. My Uncles always DJ’d and threw parties when I was coming up. Therefore, I grew up listening to the new hip hop of the 80's (Eric B, Rakim, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane, Run DMC, Salt & Peppa, and Roxanne Chante). I would also stay up late to watch Video Music Box with my sisters. My love for music was something that was in me since my elementary years.
My first TV appearance was on the Regis and Kathy Lee show modeling Halloween customs. Combining my love of music with the sparkle of studio light, I began my journey to become a performer. I submitted an application for the School of Performing Arts, but was denied. As a result, I enrolled in Martin Luther King High School. The year was 1996; you know when Little Kim, Foxy Brown, Jay-Z and my old time favorite Notorious B.I.G. were doing their thing. I threw caution to the wind, and started writing. I didn’t think too much of it, as I was doing it for the love of it. However, others told me I was pretty good at it. However, due to various factors I was not doing well in King so I ended-up going to school in Brooklyn. Interested in little else, I was always writing in school. While attending school in Brooklyn I hooked up with some chicks from my school. They called themselves the “Murda Mommies”. We began doing showcases on Atlantic Ave., always pleasing the crowd and winning showcases back to back. My rap name back then was “Kiwi”.
After high school we each went our separate ways. I joined the workforce and enrolled myself in Monroe College for Hospitality Management. I stopped writing for a few years, but it never stopped being my passion. Once I finished school, I got right back on my job. All though school my sister would always tell me to keep writing. She believed in my talent and knew a lot of people who could help us get our foot in the door. One night I was out with my sister and she introduced me to one of her producer friends. She told him about my writing talent. He asked to hear something; as all producers do. I spit for him. He handed me a track, and gave me a week to come up wit a hot concept, a hook, and the verses. It took me two days to finish the whole song. That weekend I was in the studio recording my first song “Average Chick.” This was the beginning of my business relationship with Unstoppable Zone Entertainment. Since the inception of my relationship with UZE I have written and recorded eight songs. The titles include “Fly Girl” and “Episode” Featuring R&B artist “Zaheem”. I am also writing for up and coming rap artist P-Star. The list will get greater and more familiar to you as time passes. My long term goal is to be a well known and respected song writer, recording artist, video director, model, and endorser… and yes I will have that Bed & Breakfast in the Hampton’s.
