There is a place that exists in the universe of music, a mystical place where anything is possible. There are no rules and no limitations. Nothing exists but the love of music; this is the world of Nano 3. Rising from the ashes of the Lehigh Valley band Point Blank, Nano 3 has created an eclectic sound, admired by many but mimicked by few. With a sound described as experimental and unpredictable this band rocks with a passion possessed by very few. Forming in the Allentown area in 2000, Nano 3 quickly distinguished themselves from the existing cookie-cutter rock scene with a truly unique sound.
The band played their first showcase at Mayfair, a music and arts festival in Allentown, PA. An audience of over 1,000 people was incredibly receptive to the band, and many converted to the new found religion of Nano3. For the past four years the band has been touring almost non-stop in the Tri-state area, supporting their three independent releases, Fatmandu, The Orange Album and Transitions.
Most recently Nano 3 has been featured as part of the OMAP summer concert series and at the "Best of the Lehigh Valley" summer concert series at Musicfest in Bethlehem for the past two summers. They also recorded their song "So What" at the Menagerie Recording Studio in Saylorsburg Pennsylvania for a compilation CD (Menagerie Recording Studio, Compilation Disc, Volume 1) featuring the best local talent from around the Lehigh Valley area.
Originally a trio, Nano 3's current lineup consists of five key players, 3 of which are students of Temple University's Jazz program. Founding members Greg Snyder and Jerry Hunsberger comprise the string section, with new additions Tyree Barron applying experimental saxophone stylings, Mike "Duke" Ducassoux laying down smooth, driving drum beats and James Cargill fronting the band with his incredible vocal talent and his off-the-wall stage antics. "Transitions" is the band's latest album, but this album, although loved and respected by many, does not include all of the current members.
INDIVIDUAL BIO'S:
Greg Snyder
Born and raised in Allentown, Pa, Greg Snyder, at age ten, realized his strong interest in music, as a result of his exposure to his father’s guitar playing. He began studying classical guitar. After six years of classical training from Ted Williams and three years of Blues/Jazz training from Gus Schnabel, Greg made his move to Philadelphia to study Jazz Performance at Temple University. Studying under Tom Giacabetti and Terell Stafford, Greg quickly became a premier guitarist, in the Philadelphia area. Graduated from Temple University with a Bachelor of Arts in Jazz Performance, Greg is settled in Philadelphia with motivation to make a name for himself.
Mike Ducassoux is from Norwood, PA where he was born and raised. He is currently completing his education at Temple University with a Bachelor of Music in Education and Jazz studies. Mike began his percussion career when he was 8 years old, and began to take music seriously in high school when he began to play the drum set at 14. Studying with teachers Bill Bussone, Glenn Steele, and Erik Johnson, has allowed Mike to gain knowledge in all realms of percussion, not just drum set. This training has allowed Mike to gig in many styles of music including orchestras, jazz combos, latin, as well as nano3.
James Cargill grew up in NJ went to college @ Kutztown University where he studied Theatre and Music. He started off singing a lot of jazz standards, influences include Sinatra, of course, Bobby Darin, and Mel Torme. He worked professionally as a singer from 2000 - 2004 as a headliner for Carnival Cruiselines and as a member of a production company working out of Las Vegas, NV. He also lived in Los Angeles for a couple of years looking for work in film which produced little results however got the chance to sing in some great clubs. After LA, James found himself back in PA where he was offered an oppurtunity to front Nano 3. He also coolaborates with Greg in the writing process, a partnership which has proved very successful.
Computer techie by day, Musician by night, Tyree Barron was raised in Yeadon, Pa. He started to play music around age ten when he got his first saxophone. This would be his main tool for making his way throughout high school and college. He attended Temple University in 2001 and soon graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Jazz Studies. Under the tutelage of Prof. Ben Schachter, Tyree has learned to look outside and beyond the box of what we call music to develop his own concepts of sound, whether it be jazz, classical, funk, rock, or any other genre thrown at him.
