Influences
I started singing 12 verse murder ballads as party pieces for my parents at about the age of 4!!! & guess them old English/American folk songs have been a big influence. Influences include: Vocal Harmonies, Hedy West, Shirley Collins, New Lost City Ramblers. The Everly Brothers, Dolly Parton, Steve Earl, & lots of new alt country: Wilco, The Jayhawks,RYAN ADAMS, Iris Dement,The Be Good Tanyas & Jolie Holland.Ricky Lee Jones. alongiside Warren Zevon, The Men They Couldn't Hang, The Waterboys, The Clash, The Pogues, Nick Cave, the Richie era of the Manic Street Preachers & Radiohead. Love The Herbaliser, KRS 1. De La Soul, Public Enemy& funkdoobiest. Beverly Knight. I'm also up for some Bonnie Prince Billy & love Devandra Banheart. How much of this comes across in my music I dont know! The Sea (Stormy or calm) is another big influence. Presently, most played on my turntable is ANYTHING- by Rufus Wainwright. Traveling is an influence (India is my big passion).
Am also inspired by the writings of KARL MARX, JOHN PILGER, NOAM CHOMSKY & FREEDOM FIGHTERS WORLD WIDE.
Sounds Like
Have been told there's a little Be Good Tanyas vibe in my music (which isnt true but has pleased me very much) and also a touch of Dolly!

My heart is with rootsy folk country music but i love most music styles...
I write & record as a solo artist, collaberating with dance/hip hop artists,Including the Band ORBITAL (I sang on the chart hit 'Funny Break, One is Enough - available on the 'All together' album and the Best of Orbital). Voted single of the year in 2001 by readers of FUTURE MUSIC Magazine. I sang this tune live on LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND'. I've sang on some other club hits too.Presently, im mainly doing solo acoustic gigs...
I love SAD, SAD, SAD songs, dark & happy songs! political songs, historical songs, love songs & hate songs. I spent much of the summer of 2007 joining THE MEN THEY COULDN'T HANG during their spots at the various summer festivals. This year in march I did my first national tour supporting JUSTIN CURRIE of DEL AMITRI

You'll be in the playlist next week hopefully so listen out and let me know if you have a favourite photo you want to have on the website...for promo etc.
Hey Naomi! Great stuff. You should check out my other band page, myspace. com/themaerlock - maybe we'll cross paths on the folk seen soon enough! Keep on singing! Salma xxx
All is good mate. Really great to see you...shame we couldn't chat longer. Got shed loads to catch up on but I'll have some of your tracks on very soon...you've such a great voice...you're gonna get there I tell ya!
From one musician to another, when using a gas-powered lawn mower, be sure to also use earplugs. No kidding. Those 2-stroke gas engines hit high decibels from 5 feet away! If you're using a hand-push grass cutter or an electric mower or a team of trained goats, the ear plugs won't be so necessary.
So you are ALSO from Cornwall?? What is it with that part of England... must be talent in the sky over there lol: all my heroes are from that part of the country! (Guess I was born in the wrong country, OR must have lived there in a past live ;))
Too right that match was impressive. I was hoping the spectators would open their cell phones to light the court if necessary. Each point made me want to see more. *dusts off her tennis gear*
I can read it! Are you talking about the lettering on the comments bit? LOL. Glad you had a good time at 2 Rivers. Ok for Tues, will have to change Weds eve as I'm working - sorry I didn't realise, but Fri is still OK.
This month we have Regina Spektor with the theme to the film Prince Caspian (but don’t let that put you off, it is really rather wonderful), Mermaid Skeletons with a great song that’s worth it for the chorus alone, the Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir, who are as good as their name if not more so and finally the legendary Chip Taylor with the thought-provoking Former American Soldier. Great listening, and if you like the tracks, buy the albums!
