Naoshi OKURA was born in Kobe, Japan in 1977, a visual/audio artist.
He attended Tama Art University in Tokyo and earned a B.A in art science. From 2006, he has been in M.F.A studies in Trondheim Academy of Fine Art. He has been creating paintings, video arts, installations with LED, fluorescent lamp or other luminous devices. Besides, having improvisational performance with laptop for generating noise and sine wave, sampling environmental sounds for reconsidering possibilities of soundscapes, composing various styles of sound works, audio sculptures, music...
He is mainly interested in relations between image and sound. In addition, something invisible and inaudible to be evoked in image and audio, too. In other words, he has intended to create new rooms for breaking a fixed idea by means of his trans-media techniques. With help of his works, he ultimately aims at expanding new areas of human perception and recognition in order to perceive something which people are used to neglect and to pursue new society and visions. He has deeply been influenced by Eastern philosophies, concept "Sunyata" in particular, and they are part of his backgrounds for creation. He has thought how to realize "Sunyata", means "form is emptiness, emptiness is form" with his multimedia techniques.
He moved to North Europe in 2004 and first lived in Stockholm, Sweden. Now he lives and works in Trondheim, Norway and Kobe in Japan.
He was honored with Gustaf Dahl Minne in 2007.
