I should mention that I am fussy about public bathrooms and will always clean the seat and cover it with toilet paper or covers designed for this purpose. I have a large collection of classic rolls of the Blues Magoos, T Rex and The Raspberries; all first pressings and out of print. And even though it is disrespectful to eat after dark I do treat myself to dimming the lights and walking around the house with an empty bag of Frito's corn chips. This is a signal to neighbors that Mustafio is home and an invitation to join me.

For many years, I ran the projector at the Vitascope Hall movie theater and one evening while I was threading the second reel, lightning struck the flagpole outside. A huge crash ensued, the impact of which practically threw my assistants over the balcony. As it happens, the film that was playing, Valley of the Gwangi, had Mustafio as a character, and the actor playing me affected a perfect pause after the crash before delivering the next line. The audience was both exhilarated and relieved. After, all of us sat around rollicking with laughter, forgetting about the rest of the movie, let alone the scene.

I played a small town judge in an Andy costume for $350 weekly when Carol Channing called me on the short side. She said, "Mustafio there's something you should know, but I can't tell you." I didn't go Charlie Cheerful but I agreed due to her insistence to try on the polka dot happy pants. Lyndon Johnson was teaching an introductory drum class after the Cold War and I was doing four shows a night and three on weekends. Carol elected to order banquet style and for dessert we had the soufflé and cordials. At the time Mustafio was a drill press operator and in desperate need of something sporty to wear.

Dinner was very nice. And perhaps despite the incessant wheezing I enjoyed listening to Jerry wax resplendent about being kicked out of military school because of the wooden stage he built on the edge of a fake cliff. We lunched to an unconscionable hour and then polled yay or nay on eating until breakfast. The decision was formidable because by meal's end Mustafio was stuffed worse than a barrister who had not yet taken full silk.

Whether it be a one dollar or a fifty dollar dinner, picnic or ox roast, Mustafio has tasted a variety of food. Insomuch as I could never depend on its quality, I usually have steak and potato in my room before dinner.

There was a pronounced incline leading into the street so there would be no argument as to when the sidewalk ended. There were plans for a gorgeous stucco fence, but realizing the expense, we opted for 4x4 posts and manila rope. I was visiting my dear Porcelina at her home. She is, and I say this without reservation, a delight to the senses and an emollient to the soul. Many little dinosaurs no bigger than Mustafio's hand wobbled toward the bus stop like a completist collection of wind up toys toddling the geological erosion. As usual I enjoyed greeting my friend Henry Block who was lying on the flat plateau but I was surprised to find him strangely disinterested in his toys. Normally he would shuffle wetly at his dinosaurs as this was an expression of his august taste. Porcelina had purchased an electric razor as a gift to the veterinarian and Mustafio was scheduled to share the commute to the medical center. I am aware of medical centers and I had asked the bus driver to wait until I had reached Porcelina's home, since we were not far. Unfortunately we were told that the doctor was spending the day across town at the symposium which represented a considerable drive. It was the section where sidewalks had yet to be constructed. And then, while still chuckling about that, we passed through the guard check point before being directed to the auditorium where the program was scheduled to begin. I approached the podium and explained that in Botswana, it is customary for a home to have a knee high fence. The height is not relevant despite how they look in the pictures. They are in fact no different than the fences surrounding most homes. Soon Porcelina located the veterinarian. She introduced herself to the gentleman and he thanked her cordially for the razor. "Great!" I said and we shook hands. The more the merrier.

I played Ben Casey on "I'm almost finished, I'll put the stove back" but this was before sound and as such, Mustafio could not feign the required complacency on the radio. And I'm sure the feeling was mutual. Fistfights broke out on the set, and eventually I was ousted and replaced by Ben Gazarra.

So it's a capital 'T' that's been hanging you up? Don't worry, it's only paint. And paint is easy to remove. If I was your mother and you were my daughter, you would be sleeping already. I wear these pajamas only on weekends. And you think that's healthy? People don't listen to their body until it's too late. I am not dramatic, I am merely being practical.

It's a fractured fallacy to engage in 'what have we here?'. 'Is' is what it is, only and evermore. Suck it in, rub out your eyes, and try to elicit some adaptability from your otherwise rigid & pitiful soul. If the only hearty thing on the menu is lamb pudding, say "Good! That's a tasty treat!" Quell the gag response and move forward. Better and more accessible nutrition will be obtained through the ingestion of the liquified 'bah-bah' than by ingesting the napkin, though that may seem momentarily preferable. Wise choices always make wise men.
