So this is my first entry on MySpace....I'm like the last mofo to finally post-up here!! But anyway, here I am!! That's right,it's me,Nappy G., Gordon Clay, the same one from back in the day.....Networking is the main goal of this website,so I wanna be down!! Cuz y'all know I likes to network......country-to-country,city-to-city,but now we gettin' down to the Nitty-gritty! People I run into are always asking me,"Hey,what have you been up to?" and I'm always thinkin' "Damn, where have YOU been?"....but here's the recap: I stopped playing/m.c.-ing in Groove Collective in early 2000, & I started dj-ing & producing....simultaneously, I've been playing percussion on a weekly basis (every Friday) at the amazing party "Turntables On The Hudson",with dj's Nickodemus & Mariano (w/ Eddy Plenty & Cato),since the Summer of '99. This party (TTOH) is still going strong every Friday, sometimes taking lil' breaks during the wintertime, but always back on the Chelsea Piers(The Frying Pan boat) in the Spring/Summer. Currently,my weekly DJ gig is every Saturday night at a big Latin club called "LUA" right across from Chelsea Piers,on the waterfront in Hoboken. I spin Soul Classics, Current Hip-Hop,R'n'B,Reggaeton,Breakbeats,Bhangra,a little Salsa House, some Samba House, and some Salsa Duro....all mixed together with the rhythm & timing of a drummer!! The NYC dj-scene is over-saturated,and so most clubs don't really pay dj's properly, plus the crowds in The City are a bit jaded sometimes,so until the right gig comes along, you can only catch me dj-ing special one-off events locally. I DJ more often for private events or outside New York, where people aren't "too cool" to get freaky on the dancefloor, and where a good mix is really appreciated...places like Athens,Greece/Istanbul,Turkey/Roma,Italy/Barcelona,Spain....you get the idea! The Mediterranean,basically......those are my peeps! I tried my hand (2003-2005) at some technology-based business, and even though I learned a lot,I can't say my bank account got fat from it. But Life is all about trial & error, right? I still love playing percussion, and I'm integrating it into my productions a lot these days. Accompanying dj's is a special skill I've been developing since 1991(Giant Step),and unlike most of the drummers who play today at clubs, I was the 1st guy who I ever saw doing it! Of course there have been other drummers who accompanied dj's,but they were back in the 70's......I was the 1st one to bring it into the future, and anybody who says different better have proof.....cuz I do!!! As a producer, I made a solo cd,"Perc-0-Delic:The Yin & The Yang" back in 2003,and released it on my own indy label in 2004..........my old website sold it,but that's all being re-built now,so at the moment it's only available through direct-mail requests to me. Don't worry, there's a lot more music coming from me.........I have just finished producing an epic hip-hop masterpiece by the pioneer rapper,MCEC,who has just come out of retirement after a 10-year absence. This cd is called "'86 GL",and 1 of his songs is up here on my site@ MySpace("ERIK ESTRADA" &"Right About Now"....pre-Talib,thank you!). We're looking at a October '06 release, but there are 3 videos already filmed(lookin' awesome!) and you will be hearin' mo' about it,fo' sho'!! If you like your hip-hop Less Blingy and More Stinky,as in Funky/Sweaty/Hillarious,then this is the music for you!! Don't get me wrong....a little gangsta-ism is good sometimes....but you can't eat sphagetti every single day,can you? Diversity is the key,in all things. I'm just finishing up a track by an amazing singer named MARIELLA,which is a Spanish-English Reggaeton jam, with a Salsa break in the middle, featuring some amazing salseros from Puerto Rico!! Got "Afro-Azucar" coming out on w/Zeb & Sabo....Last year I played perc. on a hot track with Sabo & Zeb called "Jump NYC" on Nickodemus' new label "WonderWheel Recordings". We've (me,Zeb,& Sabo) got more tracks coming out early this Fall, which will keep the dancefloors hot. I played a lot of percussion on Nickodemus' solo CD "Endangered Species",which just got picked up by ESL Records(thievery corp.)...I've recorded and toured a lot in the last 2-3 years with Madrid De Los Austrias, Jaffa and The Funky Lowlives....all around Europe. I toured all over Japan last year, playing percussion with Jody Watley. There's too much to tell about the past,so let's just focus on Now and The Future!! Stay tuned to this spot for previews.... I'm also producing beats & editing music for multi-media presentations,as well as interstitial music for TV and websites....if your head is nodding to a beat during a commercial,it could be my touch! This is just the beginning for me.....after Dreamspeak,Giant Step,Groove Collective,Repercussions,Organic Grooves,Turntables On The Hudson,Tesao, and a million other parties/bands,I've still got the Music In Me,baby! It never goes away,no matter what. And that's universal. I Won't publish GIGANTIC ads that take up the whole page,so make your JPG's smaller if you want to see 'em here! Also,NO GENERIC pictures of sunsets, flowers, fairies,or unicorns! This ain't a Hallmark card! Be original. Thank you. Get Ready....
You are a "G" my friend, always wonderful to see you, we go way back, and I hope you are at my next one. Thank you always for being so very kind! Much Much Prosperity to you;)
